Sole Power leads way for Flying Five

Earlier in the season Sole Power made his first competitive appearance on Irish soil for almost four years and now he tops the entries for Sunday's Derrinstown Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh.

In a race that Eddie Lynam appears to very much the man who holds the key, Sole Power's last run in Ireland over the minimum distance was in this very race back in 2011 when he finished second.

Back then the Flying Five was a Group Three contest and this year's renewal is a Group Two but based on the five-day entries which were out yesterday, it appears to be a Group One in everything bar name.

As well as his stable star Sole Power, Lynam also has recent Curragh winner Moviesta, part owned by Harry Redknapp, and high class filly Anthem Alexander to consider for the race.

Evanna McCutheon's recent Beverly winner Maarek has also been left in alongside Toscanini, while there are 12 British-trained entries in total, including the William Haggas-trained Muthmir.

Both Paul Hensey of the Curragh and Pat Keogh of Leopardstown are understandably thrilled with the quality of entries for the showcase fixture of Irish Flat racing.

Hensey commented: "I'm delighted with the entries for all the Curragh races after final forfeit.

"In particular, the number of international horses that remain engaged is very pleasing. The entries for the three Group Ones at the Curragh are of the highest quality and the Group Two Derrinstown Stud Flying Five has attracted what is essentially a Group One field."

While Keogh added: "After 12 months preparation, the waiting is nearly over. We are all set to stage one of the best day's racing ever seen in Ireland. We would encourage people to come early on Saturday and become part of this historic occasion."

Racing on Saturday at Leopardstown gets underway at 3.30 with the Champions Stakes due off at 6.50, while the Curragh begins on Sunday at 2pm and the three Group Ones will be run off back-to-back at 3.40, 4.15 and 4.50.
