Oscar Pistorius to appeal murder conviction

UPDATE: OSCAR Pistorius has been granted bail after being found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

EARLIER: A LAWYER for Oscar Pistorius says the former athlete is seeking leave to appeal his murder conviction in the constitutional court.

Pistorius appeared at the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday for a bail hearing after court of appeal judges last week found him guilty of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Last year, a court handed the 29-year-old "Blade Runner" a five-year prison sentence for culpable homicide (the equivalent of manslaughter) after he shot Ms Steenkamp multiple times through a bathroom door at his home on Valentines' Day 2013.

Under his murder conviction, he now faces up to a 15 year prison sentence.
