Achenes: trigonous with prominent angles, oblongoid, smooth and shining, 1.0-1.5 mm long (including the stylar base), lightly striate-reticulate under high magnification. Bristles: shorter than to barely exceeding the achene or wanting, stramineous. (Rudimentary in var. anachaeta which sometimes has blunter angles and a more reticulate surface).
Diagnostic Characteristics: Tubercle confluent with the achene as a stylar beak, not forming distinct apical cap. Scales 1.5-2.5 mm long. Achenes 0.9-1.3 mm long.
Duration: PERENNIAL
Ecology Comments: Prefers saline soils rarely growing in fresh water marshes.
Estuarine Habitat(s): Herbaceous wetland, Tidal flat/shore
