ABOUT THE HOUSE
Bradley House was purpose-built as a boys’ boarding House in 1830, has been called by its present name since 1945 and was converted into a girls’ house in 1992. Bradley is conveniently situated in the heart of the School, overlooking the Science Schools and Design Centre. The accommodation caters for 11 girls in each of the five year groups and was refurbished in 2013. The younger girls have two small dormitories, with separate single and double studies on the ground floor; there are double study-bedrooms for the second year girls and in the remaining three years, the girls each have a single study-bedroom.

Bradley House is built around a quad which is used by all years as an area for relaxation, hosting visitors and, during the summer term, for al fresco dining. Accessed from the quad is our beautiful library which is used for society meetings, small social gatherings and quiet study. The back garden is extensive and is also available to all the girls. Each year-group has a common room, equipped with TVs and DVD players; there is a well-resourced fitness room, containing three treadmills and two cross-trainers. In addition, there is a second dining room at the back of the House which has a piano and is used for social events, meetings and concerts. Most recently, this room has been fitted with a projector and screen for House movie-nights, using Bradley’s extensive DVD collection!

The girls of Bradley are well integrated and there is a strong system of support between and amongst the year groups. We have a Family Group system, where one girl from each year group makes up a ‘family’ of five. Families eat together each week and also go out for supper together on occasion. A happy and purposeful atmosphere is thus promoted, as each girl feels well supported from her very first day at the School.

HOUSEMISTRESS
Liz Sale joined Rugby School in 2012 as Housemistress of Bradley and teacher of Biology. She began her teaching career in 2000 in the state system where she taught Biology and was Head of Year, before moving to Australia for four years. During this time she was Head of House and subsequently Head of Science in a large independent day school on the Gold Coast of Queensland. She also coordinated the school’s Duke of Edinburgh Award using her experience in leading Gold expeditions earlier in her career. Having spent far too long on the beach and enjoying the sunshine, in 2010, Liz came home to take up the post of Head of Science at Bilton Grange for two years before joining the staff at Rugby School. Liz is married to John with two children; George and Kate. As a family they enjoy outdoor pursuits such as mountain walking and camping with their very energetic working Cocker Spaniel, Blue. Liz is a keen skier when she gets the opportunity, and in her spare time, she also likes to use the gym, cycle and run and greatly looks forward to the netball season each year.

ASSISTANT HOUSEMASTER
Ed Taylor joined the School in 2010 to teach Physics and has been AHm of Bradley since 2013 after previously being a tutor in Whitelaw. In other areas of School life, he has coached rugby, soccer, cricket, tennis and is now involved with School golf. Ed has been an officer in the school CCF and taken part in many Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. In 2013 he took a team of pupils on World Challenge to Zambia and Malawi and he now organises the school ski trip to Austria. Prior to teacher training, Ed obtained his doctorate working on the Beagle 2 robot that went to Mars in 2003, before moving to London and working as a Quant Developer in The City. In his spare time he plays golf and during the winter he loves to snowboard. Ed lives in Bradley with his wife, Hilary, and his duties involve tutoring a number of girls across all year groups.

MATRON
Debbie Edwards joined Bradley in 2009 as Deputy Matron, after spending 18 years as a teaching assistant. She became Bradley’s resident Matron in 2013 and the girls have made sure she hasn’t had a dull moment since! Debbie’s flat is near to the girls for when she is on call during the night. She has replaced her three grown up sons with two mini dashchunds who also live at Bradley.
