Student Residency Match Profiles

Report Overview

The purpose of this report is to explore the characteristics of our graduating students and their success in the Match. The report includes data from the academic years 2009-10 through 2012-13, arranged by the medical specialty that the students matched into. Data was collected on students USMLE Step 1 and Step 2CK score. The mean and median Step 1 and Step 2CK scores of students who matched into a particular residency is shown, as well as the percentile ranges (25th, 50th, and 75th). No individual scores are displayed and no identifiers were used in the process of tabulating the data. For students who took Step 1 or Step 2CK more than one time, a combined mean and median of their passing scores were calculated. It is important to note that students who matched into a single transitional or preliminary year only were grouped under a “Transitional/Preliminary (1 Year only)” category.

The report will be used in conjunction with other resources to aid students in choosing a medical specialty. For students who are aiming for a certain residency, this report can be used to gauge the profile of a candidate who matches into that residency. For student’s undecided, this can be used to gauge a general idea of the competitiveness of a residency. The distinct advantage of this report is that the data was compiled using exclusively Wayne State University School of Medicine graduates, making it more specific than similar reports.
