Established in 1905, CSR Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd. is located in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, facing Shanghai on the east and Nanjing on the west, with Beijing-Shanghai railway and Shanghai-Nanjing intercity railway threading their way through the company. The company is recognized as the developing and manufacturing base for principal diesel locomotives for passenger and freight transport in Chinese railway, and as a traction power pioneer of the six speed-ups in Chinese railway. The company is affiliated with China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited (abbreviated as CSR hereafter) under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.

   The company occupies 1.9 million square meters with more than 6,000 employees, including more than 1,400 administrative engineers and technicians, among whom there are 167 senior and professional technical personnel, 18 experts who enjoy the State Council special allowance or make outstanding contribution at the state or ministerial level. The company possesses over 4,500 sets of various equipment and has strong machining and casting capacity, complete physicochemical testing, measuring and inspecting means. It excels in manufacturing, overhauling diesel locomotives and supplying components. At present, the company is investing to build a new industrial base to further enhance its productivity.

    Since 1996, the company has successively passed the certification of ISO9001: 2000 Quality Management System, ISO14001 Environmental Management System, OHSAS18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System and the China National Accreditation For Laboratories, and obtained the certificate of AAR (Association of American Railroads) M-1003 Quality Assurance Program, DIN EN 15085 Welding of Rail Vehicles and Components, and registers of shipping, such as DNV, GL, BV, LR and ABS.

    Over a long period of time, to satisfy the need of "high-speed passenger transport and heavy- haul freight transport" in the railway market, based on the advantage of core technology in the high-power diesel engines, the company has successfully developed 280 series of diesel engines and DF8, DF9, DF11, DF8B, DF8CJ diesel locomotives , NZJ1"New Dawn" quasi-high speed DMU, DF11Z special locomotive and "Xueyu Shenzhou" plateau locomotive on Qinghai-Tibet railway and further developed DF11G double-heading quasi-high speed passenger diesel locomotive and NDJ3 "Harmony and the Great Wall" Olympic sightseeing tour DMU, among which, DF11, DF8B and DF11G diesel locomotives served six speed-ups of Chinese railway as principal locomotives. A new record has been set both in Chinese railway history and the international railway history of the longest locomotive routing-from Beijing to Fuzhou. The journey covers 2,200 kilometers and consumes 19 hours and 38 minutes, which is 14 hours less than that before speed-up. The leader from Ministry of Railways (abbreviated as MOR hereafter) ever gave high praise and said that "No DF11 from Qishuyan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works, No speed-up in Chinese railway".

   Besides strengthening the state railway market, the company is also striving for the development in the industry and mine market. Since 1999, GKD2 electric-transmission shunting diesel locomotive and GK2C hydraulic transmission shunting diesel locomotive were successively developed. To correspond to the diesel locomotive business integration in the general development planning required by CSR, the technical drawing, tool fixture, customer resource and after-sale service of DF7G, DF5 from Sifang Locomotive Co., Ltd. are incorporated into the business scale of Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd., which helps Qishuyan Company to extend the product range.

    To further extend the domestic and overseas markets, realize export of the complete diesel locomotive and satisfy customers' needs, the company has successively developed and manufactured JMD1360 mixed traffic diesel locomotive exported to Vietnam, CKD6D meter-gauge diesel locomotive exported to Cambodia, CKD4C main line diesel locomotive exported to Venezuela and DF8BI diesel locomotive exported to Iran

    Along with the development of Chinese railway, MOR put forward the development direction as "technology import, absorption and re-innovation" in 2004. As one of the six Chinese railway equipment manufacturers key-supported by MOR, the company is cooperating with General Electric Company (abbreviated as GE hereafter) to provide 300 high-power AC transmission diesel locomotives to MOR with the rate of localization up to 85%. The first HXN5 diesel locomotive was off-line on Nov 25th, 2008, which was beneficial to importing, absorbing, and re-innovating advanced locomotive manufacturing technology in the world, upgrading independent innovation ability and taking part in international competition.

    Qishuyan Company also is the largest diesel locomotive repairing base with one third of principal diesel locomotives in China repaired here annually. On August 2008, the first trial repaired Shaoshan SS4G electric locomotive was successfully delivered to the end user, which indicated Qishuyan Company had entered the electric locomotive repairing area and strode an important step towards the goal of simultaneous development of electric and diesel locomotives.

    In October 2005, the eve of the company's 100th anniversary, Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, inspected the company and encouraged the staff to work hard continuously to realize leaping over development of the one-century factory and re-create prosperity. Mr Hu's key speech inspired and spurred the Qishuyan staff.

   Confronted with chance and challenge of rail transport industry in a new period, CSR Qishuyan Locomotive Co., Ltd. strives hard to achieve innovation, follows development requirements of Chinese railway transport and economic globalization and extends resource collocation, market exploitation, technology innovation and customer service to the world. Based on three technical platforms in terms of product, design and manufacturing, the company is making great efforts to lead the new development trend of diesel locomotive in Chinese railway by first-class products with first-class technology, and build an "Asia-First and World-Class" diesel locomotive developing, manufacturing and repairing base.
