can u help me to delete that "system derived file"? yes i know that used in new beta version, but if it show up in folder, it will disturb view. my friends who download from here, feel confuse. Imagine there 2 view:
view 1:
141116_Hari1_Sesi1.MP3
141116_Hari1_Sesi1.afpk
141116_Hari1_Sesi1.png
141116_Hari1_Sesi1_spectrogram.png
141116_Hari1_Sesi2.MP3
141116_Hari1_Sesi2.afpk
141116_Hari1_Sesi2.png
141116_Hari1_Sesi2_spectrogram.png
141116_Hari1_Sesi3.MP3
141116_Hari1_Sesi3.afpk
141116_Hari1_Sesi3.png
141116_Hari1_Sesi3_esshigh.json.gz
141116_Hari1_Sesi3_esslow.json.gz
141116_Hari1_Sesi3_spectrogram.png

view 2:
141116_Hari1_Sesi1.MP3
141116_Hari1_Sesi2.MP3
141116_Hari1_Sesi3.MP3

i would prefer to view 2. because its more simple, people will not disturb by another system derived file. only focusing at mp3 format. i hope u can help me to delete it all.. thanx.

Same problem here (mp3 originals). Those spectrograms and pictures of the wave-forms are distracting and completely pointless.

I followed the (rather poor) instructions here:
https://archive.org/help/derivatives.php

And made and uploaded a "_rules.conf" file like:
CAT.ALL
CAT.lossy
CAT.PNG
CAT.afpk
CAT.json.gz
CAT.gz

which didn't work.

A one-line file with "CAT.ALL" also didn't work:
derivatives.php says: 'To prohibit *all* derived formats, you would upload "_rules.conf" containing the following: (CAT.ALL)'

hi there,

on the (+) side, you did understand our documentation and did the right thing. however...
we recently changed our policy at archive.org..

so now only the following suffixes/formats can be "prohibited":
mp3/VBR MP3
ogg/Ogg Vorbis
mp4/h.264
ogv/Ogg Video

the other suffixes/formats can't be prohibited now because they are important for the display/setup/research of items.

apologies for that Bad News from your perspective -- we understand your concerns and desires but are trying to work with the best mix of policy/future features, etc.

I'm still unsure of the value of the file type exclusions change. Most likely my opinion is not top of the list though.

I'm certain that I would rather not see waveform images as the default in Old Time Radio. It has not reached the "shaking my cane at you" level but it does distract from the experience. Maybe you could replace it with a ticker tape?

those files are part of the architecture of the beta site so they will remain or be regenerated.

halo admin, i have been waiting for 2 month. have you solved my problem? because "derive" process its really annoying. 20 minutes ago i have upload some file in my item https://archive.org/details/kajianjogja and now when i want to add some file, a cant change it, because "Derive" process have been run. (this item is currently being modified/updated with a "derive" task) usually i need to wait for 24 hours, and its really annoying, i need to change my files today, as soon as possible. every time derive process run, i need to wait minimum, 24 hours..
what i need is just have special rules for my account, to NOT DERIVE any item in any form. Thanx a lot..

spectrogram and waveform files will always be derived.

you might want to consider creating separate items for files rather than putting them all in one item.
