About The Literacy Web

The Literacy Web is designed to promote the use of the Internet as a tool to assist classroom teachers in their search for best practices in literacy instruction, including the new literacies of Internet technologies. We have made every attempt to link teachers with current research and theory that supports traditional and new literacy practices as well as to guide teachers towards particular classroom resources that can enhance literacy development for students at all grade levels. We've included sections for professional development in the areas of literacy and technology integration to encourage teachers to use this website during their own inservice trainings and we've provided links to recommended websites for students as well. To view the website's current structure, you can access the site map.

The Literacy Web was begun in January, 2002 and will change as we adapt to the changing needs of classroom teachers. Funding for the development of The Literacy Web is provided by a gift from Raymond Neag through a graduate assistantship program from the NEAG School of Education at the University of Connecticut. If you are interested in joining our technology and literacy doctoral team, please contact Dr. Donald J. Leu.

This website was created by Dr. Donald J. Leu and Julie Coiro at the University of Connecticut. Don holds the John and Maria Neag Chair in Literacy and Technology at the University of Connecticut. He is a leading authority on the use of Internet technologies in school classrooms to prepare students for the new literacies of their future. His personal homepage is at http://www.sp.uconn.edu/~djleu/.

Currently, she works as a software/literature management consultant, providing professional development opportunities for educators in the areas of technology integration, curriculum development and literacy strategies.
