The Literacy Web is designed to promote the use of the
Internet as a tool to assist classroom teachers in their search for
best practices in literacy instruction, including the new literacies
of Internet technologies. We have made every attempt to link teachers
with current research and theory that supports traditional and new literacy
practices as well as to guide teachers towards particular classroom
resources that can enhance literacy development for students at all
grade levels. We've included sections for professional development in
the areas of literacy and technology integration to encourage teachers
to use this website during their own inservice trainings and we've provided
links to recommended websites for students as well. To

The Literacy Web was begun in January, 2002 and will
change as we adapt to the changing needs of classroom teachers. Funding
for the development of The Literacy Web is provided by a gift from Raymond
Neag through a graduate assistantship program from the NEAG School of
Education at the University of Connecticut. If you are interested in

John and Maria Neag Chair in Literacy and Technology at the University
of Connecticut. He is a leading authority on the use of Internet technologies
in school classrooms to prepare students for the new literacies of their

Julie is a doctoral student studying in the area of
literacy and technology integration. Julie is a certified teacher with
a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Currently, she works
