What's New in Version 7.3.1

Thank you for updating to the latest version of the WSJ app.

With our 7.3 release, the app now uses less storage space on your iPad and gives you control over downloading older issues. It also shows you download progress on the "Editions" screen.

The app will now automatically download only the two most recent WSJ issues. You can download older issues from the archive on the "Editions" screen. If you would like more than two issues to download and save automatically, you can make this change in your app settings.

For WSJ iPhone users, this release brings design improvements. We also have launched several new iPhone sections including Heard on the Street, New York and Virtual Reality, where you can find our popular and immersive VR video stories.

On both iPad and iPhone, we have improved overall performance and the define words function.

Thank you for your feedback. More enhancements for both iPhone and iPad users are on the way.

Upped to 5 stars!

The WSJ remains the first Website I check (twice daily). I rank the WSJ ahead of the NYT because of superior editorial (far more objective), better video, and market intensive. Not to mention the links to it's sister partners like Barron's. And thanks for adding the magazine, which used to be the only feature that the NYT could claim as superior. Ps, I have no problems with latest update.

Ok, I will update my comments to reflect my feelings about the ever more time consuming streaming ads prior to the actual news video. I still respect the WSJ by limiting both the # and length of the annoying advertisements. CNBC is definitely the worst of the bunch, where you can expect the advertising to equal 30-40% of the content you are interested in. The New York Times is not far from CNBC when it comes to force feeding streaming ads before you get to see what you hopes to see on the spot.
Bottom line, WSJ is solid #1 for all around quality and reading experience that remains non-intrusive.

The price of free.

I used to think it was inevitable that the newspapers would go out of business. When news isn't new, how can it be relevant? By the time the morning newspaper showed up I wasn't reading news, I was reading "olds". Combine that with 24/7 news coverage and free online and I saw a perfect storm for our old institutions called newspapers. Why would anybody pay for a product that was disseminated for free? Ahh.. That was the rub, the outlets all packaged their products as news like a gift wrapped present at Christmas but with one Important difference. The "free" news present had no real content. I mean it had low hanging "facts" but no reporting. Good reporting requires investigating. Good investigating requires talent and talent isn't free. A talented reporter not only helps find the dots (facts) but give us the guidance to connect them. Why do I pay for news? Because that's where the story is.

Great newspaper and app has improved

I love to read The Wall Street Journal and am now used to the new format in this app. The summaries that are available by choosing the icon in the upper right are a great way to scan content quickly. The new system of only downloading 2 days is a great way to save space and mitigate the previous problem of the app being a data hog is wonderful!

The ability to send articles to others is useless because the Journal's rules prohibit anyone who not a subscriber from reading any of the articles. This rule seems ludicrous to me so I almost never send anyone anything I read in the newspaper. To me this is a self-defeating rule because it discourages sharing your information. Unfortunately, still no way to print articles.
