SINT MAARTEN/ANTIGUA - CORRECTION/UPDATE RECEIVED: "The Sint Maarten Soccer Association would like to make a correction to a piece that was sent to the papers on Monday 18th of January 2016. The article states that for the Men's Caribbean Cup Sint Maarten will be represented by Flames United Football Club. This is incorrect. Sint Maarten will participate in many competitions in 2016 and 2017 and for the Men's Caribbean Cup, that will take place in March, Sint Maarten will be represented by a national selection team. FC Flames United will participate in the CFU Club Championship that will take place in the same period."

Members of the Caribbean Football Union gathered last weekend in Antigua for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Men’s Caribbean Cup draw that took place on the 16th of January 2016.

Sint Maarten Soccer Association (SMSA) Executive Members, General Secretary Danaë Daal and Treasurer Dwayne Wright, were among the many representatives from the Caribbean islands representing their National Associations. The first stage of the Men’s Caribbean Cup starts March 21st and is one of the numerous competitions organized by CFU this year.

Sint Maarten will be represented by Flames Football Club who are the reigning champions from the 2014/2015 Senior league competitions and the Champions of the 2012/2013 Excellence division between the island of Sint Maarten, Saint Martin and St. Barths.

“Our team is ready to compete for the first time in the CFU Men’s Club Championship and we are confident that Sint Maarten will showcase the many talents we have” commented Flames United President Mr. Dwayne Wright. Sint Maarten will be facing Grenada and the USVI in March.

SMSA new board is dedicating themselves to continue to develop and to create opportunities for its members locally, regionally and internationally. This coming weekend the Futsal National Team will be traveling to Cuba participate in the CONCACAF Futsal competitions.

As the highest body of Football on Sint Maarten, the SMSA envisions many competitions and programmes that Sint Maarten will be participating in in the  coming 2016 season. For more information follow the Sint Maarten Soccer Association Facebook Page. (SMSA)
