Rank and File: President Rivlin Receives Diplomatic Credentials of Five New Ambassadors

JUST POP IN: Mazeh 9, Tel Aviv’s hub for young English-speaking adults, launched its latest initiative this week, which it calls “daytime just pop-in services.” The hub, initiated and operated by the Tel Aviv municipality, streamlines the absorption process by concentrating relevant services for young immigrants. Its partners include TLV Internationals, founded by Jay Shultz, Gvahim, Nefesh B’Nefesh, small business supporter MATI TLV and Israel Executive Recruitment, a job placement agency founded and run by Richard Binstock. Daily events include consultations, lectures and more. NbN provides post-immigration counseling and one-on-one employment meetings, NbN’s Benjy Davis told Haaretz. “It is a perfect match to be doing this with the Olim Hub as partners,” added Davis, an L.A. native who estimated NbN has placed over 120 new immigrants in jobs since January. INTRODUCTIONS ALL AROUND: President Reuven Rivlin received the diplomatic credentials of five new ambassadors to Israel at his Jerusalem residence on Monday, including Ireland, Norway, Sierra Leone, Slovakia and Sri Lanka. ”The connection between our peoples is very important, and we wish to widen our cooperation especially in the fields of tourism, agriculture, and industry,” said Periyasamy Pillai Selvaraj of Sri Lanka. Norwegian Ambassador Jon Hanssen-Bauer noted, “Our cooperation has grown over the years, and this year alone there has been an increase of 20% in our investment in Israel.” Alison Kelly, Ireland’s new ambassador, added, “My team and I will continue to work to strengthen and expand the cooperation between our countries, especially in the fields of technology and medical advances, among others.

COOL BRITANNIA: Toby Greene has been awarded a Senior Goldman Fellowship in the Harold Hartog School of Government and Policy at Tel Aviv University and will also be teaching in the TAU Politics department. To do so, Greene stepped down on Sunday as director of research for the Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre, a London-based organization that promotes awareness of Israel and the Middle East in the United Kingdom. “My research plans include exploring the impact of Israeli affairs on Jewish diaspora communities, and examining perceptions of Israel among policy makers in the West,” he told Haaretz. Calev Ben-Dor, who joins BICOM from the Policy Planning Bureau in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will replace Greene.
