35.1 N Magazine

Inviting you to open up the cover of N 35.1 magazinecand a world of adventure is a magnificent photo of the Grand Canyon by photographer Tom Kloster.

Right out of the blocks you can relive the adventure (or find out what you missed) of the 2015 Gatherings and Festivals Naturists Have Nothing to Hide Tour, then relax with Mark and Becky Silverstein as they regale us with their Naturist Cruise Experience. Or join contributing editor Mark Storey and his lovely wife Kathy as they take us on an On the Water, Off the Grid when they travel to British Columbia’s Lasqueti Island. If you are more of a land lover take a Retro Summer Road Trip with Richard and Suzie Smith as they hook up their trailer and head out to visit naturist resorts in Pennsylvania, New York and Georgia. If you still have some energy left we come to the cover story by Len Summers where he shares the Nude Grand Canyon Adventure from 2015.

To slow things down a bit we have some interesting articles by, and on our naturist family. Tracy Horgan shares her Journey of Self-Acceptance Through Naturism—Learning to Love My Breasts, a must read for all anyone struggling with body acceptance. Followed up with a profile written by Cindy Gregory, activities director at Lupin Lodge (Home of the 2016 Western Naturist Gathering) on the wonderful Glyn Stout. Plus, NEF shares the story of The Naturist Education Foundation Research Library and a special shout out to our very own Charlie Perkins thanking him for his fine donation of naturist literature.

And we're not done yet! We feature college student Sara Bensinger who wrote Naked and Unafraid The Six Things I learned from Being Naked for Two Weeks. An engaging perspective from her research at Toadally Natural Gardens in Wisconsin, for her Gender and Sexuality Studies classes at Tulane University in New Orleans. Next up an essay by Tallahassee Bare-Devils founder Steve Haley on Why I Go Naked: An Essay on the Meaning of Naturism. While Mark Storey entertains with more of the postcard story with Voyeurs, Comic Postcards, and Popular Culture. This feature is followed up with statements from The Naturist Society members, Richard Mason (Haulover Beach), Judy Williams (Wreck Beach), and Dave Cole (Blacks Beach) on how they deal with voyeurs at their beaches.

We finish up this issue with The Afternoon that I really Sweated in the Sauna by member Michael Zahn, Nude Golf with Brad Garber and a review of the book Kidnapped by Nuns by former CBS New Correspondent and Naturist Society Member Bob Fuss.

Of course this issue has the usual N Sight, Letters, The Marketplace and The Naturist Society Network. Get your copy today and get ready for an adventure!

Catching up with Guest Columnist Carmen - TNS Social Media Director, Website Designer and N Magazine Ad Manager.

Carmen and NickyHi everyone, it's Carmen writing to you from the Wisconsin tundra. It was a balmy -10 this morning (January 18) and to say I wanted to curl under the blankets and wait until spring to emerge would not be a lie. However with so many exciting things happening at TNS central I'm willing to brave the cold in order to participate in the festivities at work.

After experiencing every computer operator's nightmare of a complete hard drive melt down I've been slowly rebuilding 13 years of accumulated contacts, art, and photos. But with that being said I hope to get the advertisers together by the end of January for an early February issue of Nude & Natural—because I have a feeling that we are all going to need some help getting into a warmer state of mind.

Speaking of a warmer state of mind the 2016 Naturism Does a Body Good tour is about to kick off with the Midwinter Naturist Festival held at Sunsport Gardens in Loxahatchee, Florida, February 11-16. Nicky and I will be leading a few workshops and I'm super excited to go through the schedule to highlight the ones I want to go to! That reminds me, I better get my (bare) butt in gear and get the updated information loaded on our website.

Stay warm everyone and if you need a reminder on the tour dates they are listed in our 2016 calendar, but you better hurry, we only have a handful left!

Smiles :D

Naturist Society founder Lee Baxandall

Lee Baxandall Naturist Society Founder TNS founder Lee Baxandall's first skinny-dipping experiences were as a young Boy Scout camping in Twin Lakes Reservation in Wisconsin. After receiving his master's degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Baxandall moved to New York, where he became active writing, translating, and critiquing plays. He also applied his writing skills to producing books on the arts, psychology, and politics. His political activism at this time prepared him for his interest in naturism to come. Together We Can Grow Naturism

Commemorative Tile

"Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." - Vince Lombardi

Did you know that when you become a member of The Naturist Society, shop the Skinny-Dipper, volunteer your time, or donate money to naturist causes you become a part of an inclusive and caring community that has been promoting and protecting naturism for more than 30 years?

Today, more of our beaches and public lands reserved for naturists is shrinking, making The Naturist Society's work more crucial than ever. We are not only battling to keep naturist ideals alive for future generations, but like you we are also fighting a downturn in the economy, and subsequently, membership dollars. We can't achieve our goals without the support of those that share in our passion for preserving what Lee Baxandall, and others before us have fought so hard for! With so much at stake, we hope you will consider supporting our work.

We are proud of the work we do, fighting for your right to enjoy nude recreation at beaches, resorts, hot springs and public lands, hosting naturist events on both coasts and publishing the first-class naturist magazine N but we can't do it alone. Won't you consider joining or renewing today so together we can continue to make strides in making naturism more main stream. Please MAIL, shop ONLINE, or call 800-886-7230 and become a member of our community!

If you are already a Naturist Society member please consider making a donation. Your support is appreciated and for every donation of $100 or more you will receive a Collectors Edition Commemorative Tile dedicated to Lee Baxandall. Each tile is numbered, seal coated, and hand crafted by naturist artist Joanne Sampey using "naked" white clay. Very limited quantities available!

Consider a Lifetime Membership

Become a Lifetime TNS memberThe Saguaro Cactus, survives in a barren, dry area due to the symbiotic relationship it shares with the creatures of the desert. Birds, bats, and insects flock to the pollen of this cactis' night blooming flowers, spreading the seeds that allow for new growth. In return the cacti provide shelter and nourishment. In this way naturists and The Naturist Society are similar. Without TNS, naturists would lose many beaches to government legislation…and without the support of naturists TNS will not grow and thrive. Won't you please consider becoming a lifetime member today and support the cause!

"It gives us a great feeling knowing that The Naturist Society is doing so much to protect our rights. The ongoing challenges naturists face are vast, but by joining with TNS and their history of remarkable accomplishments, we are proud to be a small part of the much needed solutions that The Naturist Society provides." -Claudette Richard and Jim Dickey, lifetime members since 1991.
