>Generally speaking, tumblr is the internet's biggest hugbox. It doesn't matter what you post, as long as it's "progressive" some bleeding asshole will reblog it and jerk you off. [Encyclopedia Dramatica]
Tumblr (aka Dumblr or Tardlr) is a poorly organized and terribly coded microblogging platform generally populated by SJWs and special snowflakes of all kinds.
FIRST THINGS FIRST
Tumblr allows its users to modify the HTML code of their blogs and add any scripts they want, no matter how malicious. Tumblrinas abuse this and constantly attempt to dox their visitors, doesn't look like a safe space now does it? Make sure you are familiar with using a proxy, VPN or Tor before doing anything and always keep NoScript enabled… Read the other guides in this thread to learn more and ensure your anonymity and privacy are protected.
NOTE: due to the overly exposed nature of smartphones I highly advise NOT using them at all while doing /opnei/-related work. For the same reason I advise against using Windows 10, Chromium-based browsers and school/work computers.
REGISTRATION
To register you need an email address, but you only need it momentarily to verify your account…
1. Go to https://10minutemail.org/ and you'll find the website has generated an email address for you, but it only lasts for 10 minutes! (You can reset the counter several times to get more minutes) Scroll down a bit and you'll see your inbox.
2. Copy the email address and use it to register on Tumblr. Save it somewhere because you'll need it when logging in from now on.
3. You'll be asked to solve a Google ReCaptcha, it should still work with scripts disabled. But if it didn't, you can temporarily disable NoScript and re-enable it after registration.
4. When you're done you should find a new message received on 10 Minute Mail (refresh the page if you didn't get it), open it and click on the verification link.
Congratulations, you now have an unrestricted verified account.
COMMON TERMINOLOGY
• Posting - Making a new original post. It can be of many types including Text, Photo, Quote, Link, Chat, Audio or Video.
• Reblogging - Sharing someone else's post on your blog, you can add a reply to it for the original poster to see.
• Mentioning - Including a user's name in your post in a way that he will be notified about it.
• Notes - The statistics of every post. (e.g. who reblogged/liked the post, who replied and with what…etc) Open any post's permalink and scroll to the bottom of the page to find them.
• Tags - Like hashtags on Twitter, except that they're typed into a special area underneath each post. When searching for a certain tag only original posts will show up in the results, reblogs won't.
• Asks - This is a feature for users to ask questions to one another either using their real identity or under anonymity.
• Blocking - Blocking a user means they can no longer like/reblog your posts but can still see them.
• Shadow Ban - This is a form of pseudo-banning that you don't get notified about, your account stays alive but it's like you are talking to yourself. (more on that below)
• Termination - Getting banned; your account is permanently deleted along with all your posts. HOWEVER, other users' reblogs of your posts stay alive on the users' blogs.
MENTIONING USERS
Type "@" followed by the user's name (the-name-thats-here.tumblr.com), while typing you'll find a small menu appear with user suggestions, click on the desired user.
SHADOW BANS
Dumblr will not notify you when you get shadow banned but generally you will notice a sudden lack of notifications and activity, this is when you should check… The "symptoms" of shadow banning are:
• Your reblogs/replies don't show up in the notes of the original post, the original poster doesn't see them.
• Original posts you write to a certain tag don't show up in the search results of said tag.
• Only your followers can see your posts.
POSTING IMAGES
Due to Tardlr being so shittily coded it became almost impossible to upload an image directly from your computer and have it display correctly on your post… The solution to that is, instead, copy-pasting a direct web link of the image right into the post body (on a new line), and Tardlr will automatically upload it from there.
So if you want to post any pictures you'll have to upload them somewhere first, either temporarily (favored) or permanently. And for that there are a bunch of websites (no registration necessary):
• Volafile (2 days) [Germany] - https://volafile.io/
• Uguu (24 hours) [Sweden?] - https://uguu.se/
• Pantsu (Permanent) [Australia] - https://pantsu.cat/
• Pomf.cat (Permanent) [USA] - https://pomf.cat/
NOTE: remember that there is a 1 MB limit on every uploaded picture.
