Top 5 Gizmos that Stunned the World at CES 2016

Bye, Bye 2015. Welcome CES 2016!

The biggest Tech event of the world, the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), finally came to a close a few days back. Although CES is the most awaited tech event around, frankly speaking this year’s event brought nothing exceptionally-new to the table.

The event brought in thousands and thousands of gadgets from startups to established tech giants. However, majority of the gadget, if not all, seemed like just another upgrade of their cousin products (like drones) that are already hovering in the market.

Regardless, for tech savvy consumers around the globe and not to mention the new startups that just need a little kick of inspiration to invent and present their own creation at the next event, CES 2016 unveiled many products that are worth discussing.

So, allow us to present the 7 best CES 2016 gadgets that although are not any sort of breakthroughs yet they still are incredibly-astounding.

Samsung KS9500 SUHD TVs

Dream Come True – Back to the Future’s Self-Drying Jacket Is Finally Here!

Many Back to the Future fans have been desperately waiting for years for the crazy inventions depicted in the movie to come to real life. Most of those doohickeys have been invented already – or at least their prototype versions, such as the hover board.

Among those terrific inventions was Marty McFly’s self-drying jacket. When soaked, the jacket could auto-dry itself by releasing high-pressure air that would puff-up the jacket and dry it within seconds…and yes all the while drying out Marty’s face and hair….

Wondering why I’m reminding you that scene? Guest what! The self-drying jacket is finally invented and already attracting huge amount of funding on KickStarter.

falyon-self-drying-jacket-gif

Falyon, a wearable tech start-up, has successfully created the iconic self-drying jacket from Back to the Future movie. According to what the start-up claims, unlike the movie version where the jacket dries itself within second, this 21st century jacket would take a minute or two to completely dry out by circulating high-pressure air released from the built-in amplifiers.

The jacket is made up of a breathable material that is also waterproof. The amplifiers are powered by a lightweight battery that sneakily sits in the jacket’s pocket. Falyon claims that the battery weighs as same as an iPhone 6. Plus, the jacket is extremely tech-friendly, i.e., you can fit in as many gadgets as there are pockets in it.

The start-up tried its best to keep the jacket similar to the iconic, Marty Mcfly’s jacket in all aspects like the color of the jacket (red and charcoal color) and the vents near the collar that expels the air near the wearer’s face and hair. However, the only disappointing thing is that the jacket doesn’t talk.

Other than the red and charcoal color, the jacket is also available in several other colors such as cobalt, blue, metallic silver, etc. According to Falyon, the product will be available in April 2016.

Don’t Go Camping around Stores This Black Friday without Checking out Google’s Findings

The annual shopping frenzy of Black Friday is upon us. The day fills us with the mix feelings of excitement and worry. Excited because of the best deals ever, and worried because of the most crowded day of the year.

So, if you’re feeling more worried than excited due to thought of throwing yourself into an insane number of crowds all going for the same deals as you, don’t worry. This black Friday, Google, the Search Engine giant, has got you all covered.

In its latest blog “Think with Google”, Google has prepared for you an ultimate survival plan (an infographics) on how you can easily avoid the overwhelming crowd and find the best time to hit the stores.

The anonymized data presented in the form of an infographic was collected last year on Black Friday. The data was collected from the device of users who turned on History Location while shopping. Well, the result is something every Black Friday shopper needs to see.

According to the findings, morning is the ideal time to hit the stores on Black Friday, and afternoon should be avoided. The data has hampered the wrongly-held belief of people who has always thought that afternoon is the best time for shopping.

As you can see on the image below that the traffic at almost all the retailing stores peaks at around 2pm to 4pm and starts declining from 6pm and on words.

The huge traffic pattern and timing isn’t the startling data that Google has unveiled through its infographics. Perhaps, the most surprising finding it has presented is that Black Friday isn’t the only gigantic shopping day of the year. In fact, Christmas Eve is the day when hundreds of people flock to discount stores for Christmas gifts.

Lastly, Google has also predicted in the report that this year almost 82% of the users will check the price tags on their mobiles while purchasing in stores.

Wearable Technology Took a Whole New Turn – Introducing Biometric Tech Tattoos

People have tried wearable technologies, like tech bracelets, arm bands, etc. mainly for health or activity monitoring purposes. How about we tech that technology and put it directly onto our skins, a tattoo if that’s what you’d like to call?

An Austin-based software design and development company, Chaotic Moon, has recently built a prototype of the first ever high-tech tattoo that uses conductive paint with advanced sensors that collect all the biometric data from your body. In short, it acts as a complete healthy monitoring tattoo.

You may have heard the name, Chaotic Moon, before. It is the same company that is famous for designing unheard-before wearable techs. For instance, one of its craziest yet meaningful inventions is the proximity-sensing headband, Sentiri that we’ve talked about in our last post. The company strives to design and build stuff that can help humanity evolve and take better care of their health.

Back to the “tech tattoo”, you may be wondering by now that if it’d be like a regular tattoo, you won’t be able to get it off of your skin. Don’ you? Well, unlike other implant or cyberpunk sort of technology, this tattoo will be temporary. It can easily be washed off or removed.

Much like other health monitoring devices or gadgets, the tattoo can also collect different types of biometric data of a body and upload it to a device for medical purposes. It can even detect the body temperature of the user, and it can also sense whether the user is experiencing stress which will be based on the user’s heart rate or sweat.

However, the tattoo has the ability or potential to go many steps beyond. For instance, the tech-tattoo can be used for location-tracking of the user as well. Plus, it can also check whether the user’s body has pathogens in it or if it is poisoned. This type of features can be very useful in military level.

If this technology is mastered and churned out a bit chip in the market, lots of crazy-heads – yes those cyberpunks – might experience the cyborg-like body without getting their skins cut off for any augmentation.

Sona Connected Bracelet – Let’s You Meditate With More Control & Style

Meditation is a serious need in today’s day and age. The cutthroat competition around us and the fast-paced lifestyle leave little to no room for us to give our mind and body the “Zen” it frantically craves.

So, what could be the best way to track our daily activities and acquire the needed zen without slowing ourselves down? Connected Technologies…! Sona, a renowned maker of connected wearables, has recently introduced its first connected bracelet. The bracelet’s job is to help you improve your overall wellness through activity tracking.

Indeed, Sona’s connected bracelet isn’t the first wearable that lets you track your heart rate as there are many other that came before it. However, what make’s Sona stand out from the hordes of similar gadgets out there is that it takes fitness tracking a step beyond.

Unlike other connected wearables, Sona provides a more detailed or advanced heart rate information. It has a built in Heart Rate Variability (HRV) tracker that that not just tracks your pulse rate but also gives you the added information about your cardiovascular and even nervous system.

The bracelet comes in three appealing color combinations. It is made of genuine leather, and milled metal hardware, plus the glossy looks. Apart from advanced sensors like PPG and MEMS motion sensors, it also has a built in vibrator that notifies the users of any incoming calls or text.

Perhaps, one of the most remarkable features of Sona is its Caeden App that tracks even the slight changes in the heart rate and immediately directs you to its Resonance system, which is a meditation program that helps you catch your breath and stabilize your heart rate.

The early-bird pricing for the Sona connected bracelet is $129 that includes some pre-order-exclusive addons like carrying pouch, charging dock, etc.

Bubble Messaging – The Newest Addition to Facebook’s Feature-Rich Inventory

When you can’t acquire someone, you can just imitate it and present something close to it as your own. Well, it is what Facebook apparently aiming for, after failing to acquire SnapChat in 2013.

It is now official that Facebook is experimenting with its own ephemeral, aka bubble, messaging feature, and the first one that will be bestowed upon by this new feature is France. Hourra to you, France!

The feature is available in both Andoird and iOS, and works pretty much like SnapChat. The messages will be gone, vanish, poof after 60 minutes, which I believe is enough to convey any sensitive information without worrying about anyone spying on it later.

In an official statement to NBC News, Facebook shared “Starting today, we’re conducting a small test in France of a feature that allows people to send messages that disappear an hour after they’re sent.” “Disappearing messages gives people another fun option to choose from when they communicate on Messenger”, the company added.

The bubble messaging feature can be activated via tapping the glass-hour icon on the upper tab, before sending the message. The feature can be activated or deactivated by anyone in the chat group.

For Facebook, it’s a pretty bold yet highly decisive step. It is because if the feature gets the traction that FB is desperately expecting, it’d bring the company head to head with SnapChat that rules dominantly in the realm of ephemeral messaging.

In fact, since the last time SnapChat declined Facebook’s $3 Billion takeover offer, it has gained a gigantic amount of users, with 200 million monthly users.

Regardless, the testing is still on-going in France these days, and hopefully the feature will be rolled out in the coming months or so.
