Saoirse Ronan sheds light on domestic violence in Hozier's 'Cherry Wine' video

For his new music video “Cherry Wine,” Hozier enlisted fellow Irish star Saoirse Ronan, who offers a delicate performance of a woman in an abusive relationship. In the video, the Oscar-nominated Brooklyn actress plays a woman kissing, laughing, and drinking wine with her boyfriend (played by another Irish actor, Moe Dunford). However, their intimate moments are interspersed with clips of Ronan stoically removing her make-up to reveal a black eye.

“With the song ‘Cherry Wine,’ I tried to get across the difficulty of coming to terms with and facing up to domestic violence and the dynamic of an abusive relationship,” Hozier shared on his website.

Hozier is also leading up a charity campaign to help victims of domestic violence, called #FaceUpToDomesticViolence. Proceeds from purchasing the charity single on iTunes will be donated to international domestic abuse charities.
