About this project
PHI (ɸ) is the 21st letter in the Greek alphabet. It is the mathematical symbol for the Golden Ratio; a number that in nature defines perfect proportions. It is the concept behind the design of the PHI Razor™.
Shaving; a daily ritual for most men. The process hasn’t changed much – a blade and a bit of soap. What if there was something new? In a marketplace full of boring low tech razors, isn’t it time for a change?

Crafted from American aircraft grade aluminium, this precision engineered razor uses innovative technology to improve the shaving experience. We understand that everyone's face and shave are unique so why not customize your razor to suit your face and your personal style?
The Intelligent Module Core™ of the razor includes:
- ATtiny chip: high-performance, ultra low-voltage 8-bit AVR RISC-based micro-controller.
- ADXL 362 Triple-axis low power accelerometer chip.
- RGB LED.
- Nano size pulsation motor.
- On/off control of the razor through acceleration detection. Simply pick up the razor and shake it twice to turn it on or off.
- User adjustable pulsation setting. The pulsation level of the razor is adjusted by shaking the razor 3 times, holding the unit vertically and rotating +/- 90 degrees to increase or decrease the pulsation level, or turn it off completely. Hold at the desired setting for 3 seconds and the setting will be stored.
- User adjustable LED intensity. The intensity level of the razor is adjusted by shaking the razor 4 times and performing the same rotating action to increase or decrease intensity of the Active Shaving Assist Illuminator™ output. Hold at the desired setting for 3 seconds and the setting will be stored.
- Automatic shut off. Once finished shaving, the PHI Intelligent Razor™ can simply be placed on a flat surface. After 3 minutes of inactivity, it will automatically enter a low power sleep mode until the next time you need to use it.
The PHI Intelligent Razor™ features a removable grip that allows you to customize your razor to suit your individual tastes. It also allows you to upgrade the look of your razor in the future without having to replace the entire razor. Current options include Smoothtouch™ Acrylic resin, American aircraft grade aluminium, titanium, with either anodized or full color printed finishes to allow you to completely personalize your razor. Printed finishes are applied using a proprietary UV cure 8 color Inkjet process. When you get tired of that look the grip is easy to change. New grip styles to update your razor will be released in the future.
We understand that no two people are alike. Every face is different and every person has a preference for the type of blade that will provide the best shave for them. Therefore the only way to satisfy everyone is to offer a choice of blades. The PHI Intelligent Razor™ features the PHI CLICK™ quick change Universal Shaving Head System which allows you to replace the actual shaving head to accept a variety of different blades. We currently offer a Safety Razor blade head and a 3 blade cartridge head. (A 5 blade cartridge head is in development.) Our future goal is to provide a mounting solution for most major blade manufactures products.
An idea developed after years of thinking and conceptualizing; it became our obsession to improve the shaving experience. We put pencil to paper, designed and personally manufactured workable prototypes, testing and retesting them to perfect the design. The concept was a simple one; create a hi-tech handle that would assist the blade in its function, give the user more control of the shave, and reduce consumer waste by creating an upgradable handle that could be restyled to adjust to the users changing tastes; essentially bringing the razor handle to the 22nd century. It is a new type of shaving experience; it combines luxury, sophistication, and technology.
The PHI Razor™ has 3 design patents and 1 ornamental patent pending.
Not only have we designed the shape of the handle to be more ergonomic, and stylized, it contains an Intelligent Module Core™. The IMC includes motion controlled pulsation adjustment to personalize the shave, adjustable LED lighting to aid in precision trimming during the shave, and blade wear and battery level reminders.
It began with a drawing on a napkin in a noodle house and grew from there. There were many iterations of the design which evolved from simple drawings to CAD designs to 3D printed prototypes to finally machined prototypes.
We have found local Canadian solutions to help us put this project together including machining of all the metal components.

Peter Konidas: An entrepreneur, graduate gemologist and master fabricator. Peter has spent 20 years designing jewelry and working with the retail market. He has developed a true connection with the consumer and strives to provide them with creative and beautiful products.
Demetrius Bazos: An entrepreneur, owner of a construction firm, a NACE Level 3 coating inspector, and a dedicated MAKER and tinkerer. He understands what it takes to complete complicated, logistically challenging projects and often creates tools and equipment when none exist to do the job.
Together they created the Axius Concept Group; a platform to bring to market the ideas they have had over the years.
We have taken this project as far as we can with a viable prototype, machine shops ready to start producting, blade factories ready to start producing, and cosmetics factories ready to start mixing our custom shave gels and products. We need your support to fund the next step and make the PHI Razor a reality. We require the volumes necessary to bring the manufacturing costs down and achieve the minimums required to move to production. Together we can change the world of shaving.

Risks and challenges
As with every new product there are always risks involved.
We have tried to mitigate as many of these as we can by having factories in place, having completed prototypes, and having the years of business experience required to see this project to a successful conclusion.
Both founders have extensive experience in the retail and manufacturing industries. The only think missing is you; it takes more than an idea and experience to make it successful. It needs the support of a community. Together we can make this happen.
