A member of the family Bovidae (order Artiodactyla). These
are the medium-sized herbivores, which today include various types of
pig, deer, giraffe, cattle, sheep, goat and antelope. Oioceros
was the first sheep, and emerged roughly 14 million years ago. A bone
(proximal left radius) which greatly resembles that of an Oioceros
was found in the conglomerate horizon at Jebel
Barakah.
