Curatorial Friends Groups

Explore a new way to get involved at The Met! Members of Curatorial Friends Groups enjoy unique opportunities to learn about the Museum and its collection, to participate in special programs, and to build relationships with curators and others who share similar interests, all in a behind-the-scenes, intimate setting.

Friends Groups also represent an important source of support for new acquisitions and programming within each curatorial department. Annual dues range from $1,000 to $15,000 and include a complimentary Membership, recognition in the Museum's Annual Report, and other benefits; a portion of the dues is tax deductible. Programming for these private events generally takes place from September through June of each year.

Membership in a Curatorial Friends Group is by invitation. Contact information for each group is listed on the following pages. Please note that group sizes are limited and there are certain restrictions regarding art professionals.

Friends of Photography: Alfred Stieglitz Society

The Alfred Stieglitz Society brings photography collectors and devotees into closer contact with The Met's curators, as well as its renowned collection of nineteenth-century, modern, and contemporary photography.

Friends of Musical Instruments: The Amati

The Amati is a group of music lovers that meets four times a year for intimate recitals, lecture-demonstrations, and private viewings of exhibitions related to historic instruments from the collection of the Department of Musical Instruments.

Friends of The American Wing

Founded in 1960 "to foster the growing interest of antiquarians, collectors, and students in the work of The American Wing," this group engages devotees of American art with its curator-led program of lectures, tours, and opening receptions, complemented by visits to nearby private collections.

The William Cullen Bryant Fellows

The William Cullen Bryant Fellows bring together collectors, scholars, and aficionados of historical American and Latin American painting, sculpture, works on paper, and decorative arts.

Friends of the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas

Friends of the Department of Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas support the department's exhibition program in The Michael C. Rockefeller Wing while enjoying invitations to notable exhibition viewings and opening receptions.

Friends of Asian Art

The Friends of Asian Art brings together individuals from around the world who have a serious interest in the arts of China, Japan, Korea, and South and Southeast Asia in order to support the acquisitions and activities of the Department of Asian Art and to foster a wider appreciation and understanding of Asian cultures.

Friends of MetLiveArts: Firebirds

The Firebird Circle is a visionary group of donors that helps The Met illuminate and interpret exhibitions, collections, and galleries through performance and conversation with some of the world's premiere musicians, scholars, and creative artists.

Friends of The Costume Institute

Friends of The Costume Institute is a select group of committed supporters devoted to historical costume, contemporary fashion, and the related design arts.

This special group offers collectors and people passionate about art an opportunity to interact more dynamically with the collection and curators of the Department of European Paintings.

Friends of Ancient Near Eastern Art: Inanna

Named for the ancient Sumerian goddess Inanna, this group is comprised of individuals who are passionate about the art and culture of the ancient Near East.

Friends of Egyptian Art

This group's annual dues support the activities of the Department of Egyptian Art.

The Friends of Islamic Art brings together an international group of people who share a keen interest in the art and culture of the Islamic world, providing members with opportunities to participate in a variety of exciting and exclusive programs.
