“Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland has joined ABC’s “Dirty Dancing” TV movie.

Hyland will play Lisa Houseman, the older sister to Baby (Abigail Breslin).

Lisa falls for the womanizing waiter Robbie while on summer vacation in the Catskill Mountains with her family.

Nicole Scherzinger and Debra Messing co-star in the production from writer/exec producer Jessica Sharzer.

Matthias Schoenaerts is attached to star in “Kursk”, a fact-based survival drama from director Thomas Vinterberg.

Robert Rodat (“Saving Private Ryan”) is writing the adaptation of Robert Moore’s book “A Time To Die”.

According to Deadline, “the film centers on a true story of the Kursk, a nuclear-powered Russian submarine that sank during a training exercise in the Barents Sea in 2000. Twenty-three sailors survive the crash and desperately wait for help to arrive while their oxygen runs out minute-by-minute.”

Jacqueline Bisset will star in political thriller “Backstabbing for Beginners” opposite Ben Kingsley and Theo James.

Per Fly is directing. Production is now underway in Marrakech, Morocco.

According to Variety, “the film follows a young idealist — played by James — who lands his dream job as a program coordinator for the U.N.’s Oil for Food program and is thrown into an already fraught post-war Iraq, where government agents and power-hungry nations are circling the country’s oil reserves. Bisset portrays a French NGO activist overseeing food aid.”

“Deadwood’s” Ian McShane will play Mr. Wednesday in Starz’s “American Gods” adaptation.

Ricky Whittle is attached to play Shadow Moon.

The book, by Neil Gaiman, centres on an ex-con who becomes the bodyguard and traveling partner to the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday. They’re drawn into a battle between the old gods of ancient mythology, and the new gods of money, media and technology.

Bryan Fuller and Michael Green are exec producers, writers and show runners. Gaiman will also write episodes.
