ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the Xavier Centre of Historical Research (XCHR), located on the plateau of Alto de Porvorim in Goa, India, and was launched on December 1, 1978. The creation of XCHR was made by the Goa-Pune group of Jesuits, who thought of promoting historical research on the period of European colonial presence in India. Aside from providing a reference library with rare books and manuscripts, XCHR is offering courses in the Portuguese language. The research center also sponsors annual seminars on research methodology and problems in history writing, as well as publishes monographs on Indo-Portuguese history.
