COLUMBIA - South Carolina catcher Grayson Greiner and third baseman Joey Pankake entered the Gamecocks baseball program together three years ago.

They'll have a chance to continue their partnership as professionals.

The pair of South Carolina juniors was drafted Friday by the Detroit Tigers. Greiner was selected in the third round with the No. 99 overall pick, while Pankake was drafted in the seventh round with the No. 220 overall pick.

Wow, @jpankake and @ggreiner21 are inseparable. They will always play together! Congrats both of you! You two deserve it. Best of luck!!" South Carolina freshman pitcher Wil Crowe tweeted Friday.

South Carolina lefty pitcher Jordan Montgomery was drafted by the New York Yankees in the fourth round with the No 122 overall pick.

A handful of South Carolina players could still be drafted this weekend, including closer Joel Seddon, center field Tanner English and first baseman Kyle Martin.

For Greiner, he has a chance to potentially catch Cy Young and MVP pitcher Justin Verlander in a couple years.

"Never thought I'd see the day where I'm a Tiger! So blessed to have so many friends and family to watch my dream come true. Go @tigers !" Greiner tweeted Friday.

Montgomery gets the chance to potentially play for the most storied franchise in professional baseball. Sometime this summer, Montgomery could make his way back to Charleston to play for the RiverDogs, the Yankees' Class A South Atlantic League affiliate.

"Excited to get drafted by the @Yankees today! Guess I'll acquire a taste for unsweetened tea #gamecocknation" Montgomery tweeted.

Greiner batted .311 with 50 RBIs, eight home runs and 39 runs scored as a junior last season. Pankake batted .303 with 31 RBIs and 52 runs.

Montgomery finished his junior season with an 8-4 record and 3.42 ERA.
