Promoted

2011-12-28

In 2007 Strahonja was promoted to the third category by UEFA and at the start of season 2010-2011 to the second which changed into the 1st 6 months later and to the Elite Development in 2012.

Strange circumstances
Marijo Strahonja was selected for the FIFA list in strange circumstances. At the moment of selection he had only refereed six matches in the Croatian league and he was selected before Vlado Svilokos, a more senior ref with three years in the top Croatian league. The Croatian referee commission put Strahonja in sixth position and Svilokos in seventh on their FIFA list. Even though at that time Croatia had only six referee positions, that year Fifa accepted them both as international referees. In 2005 FIFA only accepted Strahonja. Croatian newspapers wrote about this case and they concluded that Strahonja jumped over Svilokos, because so far none of the international referees were based in Zagreb, the Croatian capital.
