G-HEMZ Agusta A109S Grand In Service

About The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance was setup after the County Air Ambulance's announced pullout of their East Midlands based helicopter to Tatenhill in Staffordshire. This was due to the area being outside of the West Midlands Ambulance Service control zone. It is a sister service to the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance. The service started as of April 1st 2008, with one Sloane Helicopters Agusta A109E Power, registered G-MEDS based at East Midlands Airport. G-MEDS was sold by Sloane in the summer of 2009 to an Air Ambulance operation in Turkey. Another A109E Power, registered G-MEDX, became based. At around the same time it was announced that the operation would get a brand new and upgraded aircraft, an Agusta A109S Grand. The new A109S was registered G-HEMZ at the end of January 2010. Between the announcement and delivery of the Grand, one of G-MEDX or sister EMS A109E G-WNAA were based. After the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance took delivery of their new A109E G-RSCU in February 2010, G-WNAA was the more frequent of the two seen in service. G-HEMZ was delivered at the end of November 2010 and became fully operational on Tuesday 30th November.
