Human fossil cast collection

The Neanderthal Museum administers an extensive cast collection which allows a complete overview of the morphological development of the genus Homo in Africa, Asia und Europe. Comparably extensive collections can only be found in the Natural History Museum, London and the Musée de L´Homme, Paris. The palaeoanthropological cast collection of the Neanderthal Museum and the open source information platform NESPOS play an essential role in the European Union sponsored research project from 2004 which aims to digitally reconstruct Neanderthals (TNT).

The cast collection is situated in the collection room in the Stone Age workshop. The collection is ordered chronologically and is divided into different species. The collection is available for scientific research. Furthermore, since 2007 the collection is available for guided tours, trainings and schools.
