Though you have learnt English alphabets by learning names of these fruits, we are sure you didn't know enough about them. NDTV Good Times brings you an insight of top 10 fruits which you consume in your daily life. The benefits of which are not as commonly known as their respective names.

1. Papaya
Apart from being a high fiber fruit, Papaya is rich in magnesium, folate, copper, minerals, Vitamin A and all categories of Vitamin B which help in building cardio-vascular system and preventing colon cancer. It is beneficial in prevention of diabetic heart diseases and cholesterol levels. The fruit boosts the digestive system and even helps in weight loss. Now it should be on your list.


2. Pomegranate
This tough fruit has many medicinal properties. It contains very powerful anti-oxidants. It has great anti inflammatory properties which help in reducing chances of diabetes, Alzheimer's, obesity and other chronic diseases. Other than helping you with heart and blood pressure problems, it is also great for arthiritis and joint pains.


3. Black Grapes
Black grapes are great for people who don't want high sugar intake. It has low glycemic index and are recommendable to diabetic patients. It helps in curing migraine, Alzheimer's and dementia. Its anti-oxidant properties help in weight loss and treats indigestion. It helps in controlling inflammation caused by bacterial or fungial infection.

Pineapples are full of anti-oxidants, Vitamin C, folate, beta-carotene and other nutrients which help in fighting asthma, variety of cancers .Given they contain dietry fibers; they improve digestion and help in weight loss. Also, they are great fruits for skin and hair problems.

This fruit is great for eye- sight related issues as it is rich in Vitamin A, C and flavonoides which are healthy for eye muscles, protects cornea and helps in gaining vision. Passion Fruit is advisable to people with low hemoglobin as it is rich in Iron and aids in increasing the same. The fruit contains alkaloids which are relaxive to the nervous system, thus, reduce tension and enhances the mood.

It helps to prevent stress and anxiety in the body. Vitamins like A & C, in peaches, can reduce wrinkles; help fight skin damage caused by the sun and pollution. Peaches help fight obesity related diabetes and cardio vascular diseases. Eating Peaches can help aid hair loss problems. They work as medicine for an upset stomach. One peach contains 35-50 calories. They are rich in minerals such as potassium, fluoride and iron. Iron is required for red blood cell formation. Fluoride is a component of bones and teeth. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that help regulate heart rate and blood pressure.

It contains more than 10 vitamins and minerals like Potassium, Vitamin B5, B6, E, C , K. They are extremely low in saturated fats and contain more potassium than bananas.77% of the calories in it is from fat, but majority of the fats in avocado is oleic acid. This is a major component of olive oil which is responsible for its health benefits. Oleic acid is supposed to have beneficial effects on genes. The fats in avocado are also pretty resistant to heat-induced oxidation, making avocado oil a healthy and safe choice for cooking.


8. Oranges
Oranges are citrus fruits rich in fiber. They are considered to be great for kidney stones. The vitamin C found in them helps prevent ageing of skin and boosts immunity Since, they're full of soluble fiber, oranges are helpful in lowering cholesterol. It helps allowing your eyes to absorb light which helps attain a good vision. It is imperative that we consume orange with its inner peel as it contains highest amounts of nutrients.


9. Bananas
The starch in bananas prevents the absorption of carbohydrates in the body. This makes the   body burn fat instead of carbohydrates. Potassium in banana helps to build muscles, which in turn burns fat. Not many know this, but a banana is day is as good as an apple a day. Banana works great as a diarrhea treatment. Rich in pectin, bananas aid digestion. Banana is a fruit which is  recognized by the FDA as being able to lower blood pressure and protect against heart attack and stroke.


10. Tomatoes
These red fruits are good for your skin because of their high lycopene, which acts as a cleanser. They contain calcium and Vitamin K which will help you keep your bones strong. For those who have damaged their lungs by smoking, tomatoes can help reduce that damage. Presence of Vitamin A is good for your eyes as well as helps you get lustrous and shiny hair.
