Former Baywatch actor Michael Bergin, who penned a book claiming he had an affair with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy less than a year after she married John F. Kennedy Jr., was charged in Los Angeles Tuesday with a felony drunk-driving charge, the Associated Press reports.

Bergin, who remains free on $50,000 bail, was charged in connection with a July 16 incident in West Hollywood in which a professional inline skater was allegedly struck and seriously injured by his SUV. The inline skater, Jennifer Armstrong, suffered fractures to her left leg, according to L.A. district attorney's spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.

July 16 happened to mark the fifth anniversary of the plane crash off Martha's Vineyard that killed the Kennedys, along with Carolyn's sister Lauren Bessette. Bergin's book, The Other Man: A Love Story, was published in March, and contained Bergin's claim that his affair with Carolyn Kennedy began in California in 1997, when she spent 11 days with him after saying that her husband was on a kayaking trip with his friends.

Bergin, who has been married to Joy Tilk since this past Valentine's Day, was charged with one felony count of DUI causing injury and one misdemeanor count of driving with a blood alcohol level of more than the legal limit of .08 percent.

Both counts alleged great bodily injury to the victim.
