Syrian chargé d’affaires a.i. summoned to MFA

On 29 May 2012 State Secretary Dan Petre summoned the chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Syrian Arab Republic to the MFA.

The State Secretary firmly condemned the unqualifiable violence perpetrated recently at Houla, near Homs in Syria, resulting in the death of more than 100 persons, more than half being children. State Secretary Dan Petre expressed profound indignation about such actions of a nature to threaten regional stability and security as well.

Romania’s MFA called upon the Syrian regime to cease urgently any form of violence, and requested strict and full application of the plan of the envoy of the UN and the Arab League, Kofi Anan, in keeping with UN Security Council resolution no. 2043, as well as full support for the UN supervision mission in Syria (UNSMIS).
