Even avid movie fans may not be familiar with his name. Most commonly in the realm of film and television he goes by Zak Lee, but his full name is Zak Lee Guarnaccia. Either way over the last many years since moving to Hollywood from his native Rome, Italy Zak has been setting the world on fire as a true martial arts master, a revered stunt man and as an award winning actor in film and television. Those who know Zak Lee and his work describe him as a man with the physical comedy of Charlie Chaplin but also with the wry sense of humor of Peter Sellers. He is also one of those all too rare martial arts actors who, like his predecessor, that other Lee Bruce, is a truly proven martial artist as well as an accomplished actor. Often Zak Lee plays a villain and a rugged character. Zak Lee is also a dramatic actor with the passion of Antonio Banderas and the intensity of Gary Oldman. Zak Lee also likes to let it be known that he brings a dash of Italian attitude to his work as well. But for all of his power and many accomplishments on and off the screen Zak Lee has remained somewhat in the shadows. But that is about to come to a screaming end.
Just a very short time ago production of a new feature film wrapped. That film “Live by Night” was written and directed by Ben Affleck, produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and has many of Hollywood’s finest actors including the totally stunning Zoe Saldana and everyone’s favorite martial artist and award winning actor Zak Lee. Oh, and it is being distributed by none other than Warner Brothers.
Clearly “Live by Night” will propel Zak to the next level of stardom. However there is another project in the works that could very well land Zak Lee on that coveted red carpet in front of the Dolby Theater. That project is “Kalm” a collaborative script from Marc Guzman, Zak Lee, Paul Lupi and Ken Mora. John Rogers is on board as Director and it will star Zak Lee. It is an action/crime/thriller about a body guard escorting a famed dancer through a desert town where they get caught in the crossfire between rival drug lords.
There is also one other area that has captured the full and enormous energy of Zak Lee and that is the continuing failure of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to include stunt performers in their Oscar awards. As much as Chris Rock has taken on the Academy for one of its glaring short comings, Zak Lee is championing yet another.
There are so many fascinating things about this extraordinary man that the space allowed for this article is simply woefully inadequate. So to get a more complete picture of Zak Lee you should check him out on IMDb and his website at: http://www.zaklee.com.
