DRIVE is an action drama about a movie stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. However, when a heist goes wrong, he gets caught up in the middle of a Mafia war. The film was classified '18' for strong gory violence.

The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'. There are a number of scenes of violence which exceed this, for example when a woman is shot in the head and we see her head exploding in slow motion, spraying blood and brain matter across the full screen. In another scene, a man has his head stamped on repeatedly, off screen. The attack is so frenzied that a view of the final stamp shows the victim's head literally flattened on the floor with bloody gore and a crushed skull beneath the attacker's foot. These scenes contain the strongest gory images, which are at times accompanied by an emphasis on the infliction of pain and injury. The scenes are therefore most appropriately classified at '18'.

The film also contains over thirty uses of strong language and one self-directed use of racist language.
