BEIJING, Oct 2 (APP): Pakistan Ambassador to China, Masood
Khan said that Pakistan faced challenges of food shortage, a spike in oil prices
and international financial crisis last year. Addressing a delegation of 60 students from China’s Foreign
Affairs University here at the Pakistan Embassy, he, however, pointed out that
due to the prudent fiscal management and effective macroeconomic steps, Pakistan
had averted a meltdown.

“Our economy is now bouncing back”, he said.
The situation has considerable improved this year. “We have
excellent agricultural produce, SMEs shown good results, and remittances almost
doubled.”
The projected growth rate for next year is 4 percent which
is poised to pick up pace and the health of the global economy is also being
restored.
The Pakistan Ambassador thanked China for its help by
providing balance of payments support last year.
Bilateral trade, Ambassador Khan said, would benefit
immensely from the three Free Trade Agreements on goods, services, and
investment.
In Q and A session that was lasted for over an hour,
Ambassador Khan said that people of Pakistan and Chinese love each other from
their core of heart as both sides stood firmly with each other at the time of
need.
In this connection, he cited the examples of spontaneous
help for rescue and relief given by China to Pakistan after the 2005 earthquake.
Similarly, the people of Pakistan felt traumatized at the plight of the people
of Sichuan when they were hit by the earthquake and rushed to their help.
He said that the construction of Gwadar Port in Quetta,
Baluchistan is the flag-ship project of Pakistan-China economic cooperation. In
Pakistan there are number of projects which are being completed with the
Chinese support.
Khan further said that some Pakistani entrepreneurs have
shown keen interest to establish their businesses in China, which will certainly
help promote economic relations.
Ambassador Khan invited the students of China Foreign
Affairs University to visit Pakistan. “Meet your peers in Pakistan and explore
how the younger generation can strengthen the legendary friendship between
Pakistan and China.” he observed.
