hmmmm.....I don't believe that he is being racist in the least bit. I believe when he starts talking about rap...he is correct when he says that the rap groups selling all these albums, that none of it is deep.
Then he starts talking about being proud of being white. He makes a comment saying that the statement "stop black on black crimes" means start beatin up the white people. That comment of his was made in horrible taste, and he was overanalyzing it, it does not mean start beating up white people. It means what it says STOP BLACK ON BLACK CRIMES. If none of you know, in the hood and slums there's people beating eachother up all the time, and that statement "stop black on black crimes" means stay together, don't fight your brother. The black race is a target for many, it still has much racism at it today...and the statement "stop black on black crimes" is saying "dude, we still got racism around. That's what we need to be fighting, not our brothers and our friends. we need to stick together and beat racism, not eachother." Phil Anselmo took it the wrong way.
Now about white pride. ahhh, I have never exactly experienced it in person, but I know from experience on here that there have been instances when someone would ask a question such as "white people, why did you put my family in slavery?" I don't agree with those assumptions...a whole entire race did NOT put black people in slavery. It was their ANCESTORS, not them. So Phil Anselmo is saying "don't let them beat you down because of what your ancestors did. Don't feel ashamed to be white, BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!!" and I can agree with him deeply.
Now on the thing about wearing a white pride t-shirt and being considered a racist...I think t-shirts that say "black pride" "mexican pride" etc are stupid...it sounds like you're tryin to make your race out be better than all the others. BUT I do admit, if a white person were to wear a shirt that said "white pride" they would be looked down upon with scorn and disdain as if they were a racist because it's a double standard. Phil Anselmo made it seem like it's black people's fault that it's like that. It's not anyone's fault, it's just the way America is.
Now, I will say this. When Phil Anselmo started saying stuff like "now all you white people out there, be proud" well what if there were black people in that crowd? Were they supposed to sit there and just go "WOOOOO!" even though he addressed the white people specifically? I'm not white, I'm only half white...and that half of me I am proud of. But I would have definately felt awkward at that present time because he addressed white people specifically and was telling them to be proud...not once did he say "now the black people out there, you can be proud too." He should have done so, because it sounded like he was so busy building up the white people, that he almost put down the black people for his unfortunate run-ins with being called a racist or something.
In conclusion, I do not believe Phil Anselmo is a racist. In the beginning he said that Pantera is not a racist band and that they have friends of all colors. That's enough for me. He is friends with not only white people, but with people of all colors. What he was TRULY addressing in that speech was the double standard America has burdened us with. He is in no way racist. Not once during that whole speech did I hear him even hint at not liking black people, he was just tired of being put down for being white. Of course, who knows if he was ever even put down for being white...it woulda been nice of him to give examples of what all of a sudden made him so angry.
Thanks for showing the video. I do not like Pantera's music but still, it was a good video.
