Wolfenstein 3D Hits the iPhone

Honestly, does shooting Nazis ever get old? That's the question posed by id Software's timeless Wolfenstein 3D. The game, which is generally considered to have popularized the now near-ubiquitous first-person shooter genre, has already been ported to a seemingly endless list of consoles, including Super NES, Game Boy Advance, Acorn Archimedes, Atari Jaguar, and the Apple IIGS. Now it's come to the emerging platform in the world of portable gaming, the iPhone.

The game, which was developed by id's founder, John Carmack, features a choice of touch or tilt controls. It includes six episodes, 60 levels, and a number of weapons, including my old favorite, the chain gun.

Users can download Wolfenstein 3D now from the iTunes App Store for $4.99. Before you ask, yes, yes it can play Doom--according to id, ports of that title and Quake are on their way as well.
