KERALA ARMED POLICE IV Battalion, Mangattuparamba, Kannur

History of the Battalion

KAP 4 Battalion was formed vide GO (MS) 60/80 home dated 17.06.1980 with headquarters originally at Aluva, Sri.M.S. BalaKrishnan, IPS was posted as first Commandant.. This camp was originally built for one active company of Malabar Special Police , buildings were constructed on that view during 1962 (5.2.1962) and the same was handed over to the Malabar Special Police I Battalion in 1963. Before the taking over of the land by Department, it was a Government outer land (Purampokku Bhoomi). The camp was subsequently handed over to Superintendent of Police, Kannur on 06.10.1967 for the use of the Armed Reserve, Sub camp of Kannur District. Temporarily contingents of CRPF, MPSAF etc were also accommodated here during the period of their deployment in the District. The Battalion Headquarters was shifted to the present location, Mangattuparamba, Kannur on 04.04.1983 vide GO (MS) 38/83 Home dated,16.03.1983.

This camp is situated within Kalliassery village (Kannur Taluk) and Morazha village (Taliparaba Taluk) and the total area of the camp is 87.78 Acres (21.83 in Kalliassery village and 65.95 Acres in the Moazha village in the jurisdiction of Kalliassery and Anthoor Panchayaths respectively).

In the memory of Sri. Vinod, PC 4407, who laid down his life while on duty at Muthanga, Wayanad District on 19-02-2003 , a Martyrs Column named “ Veera Bhoomi” was constructed and it was inaugurated by Sri. Hormis Tharakan IPS, DGP Kerala on 24. 06. 2003.
