A group of angry bus drivers in King's County marched on the offices of their school board Tuesday morning.

The drivers are upset over a decision by the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board to end its bussing contract with two local companies.

Earlier this year the board awarded a new five year contract to DRL Coachlines of Newfoundland. These drivers say the deal means they'll earn less money and they won't get paid for sick days or training days.

They say most importantly, the board's decision will compromise the safety of students who take the bus.

"This will provide for unseasoned, inexperienced, green drivers at any given time," explains driver Murray Martin.

The school board says those claims are unfounded.

"The school board is assured that the new contractor has a safety plan in place," says acting superintendant Fred MacLean.

The school board says the new bussing contract will save about $2.5 million. It plans to roll the savings into teaching positions and administrative costs
