Now I know what you're thinking, everyone always says to wake up early but waking up early is difficult, and you're thinking that you could never do it. I was the same way. I hated getting out of bed before 9am, even when the duties of motherhood required me to. On the weekends my husband would often let me sleep in until noon (he's such a nice guy!).I had an erratic sleep schedule for years and getting up early and getting enough sleep didn't seem like they would go well together.
I started an experiment the other week and began getting up at 3am. Something amazing happened, after the sluggishness of the first day my life seemed to change for the better almost immediately. At 3am there are no distractions. There are no children begging for another cup of juice, there is no boss wondering when you'll do this or that. At 3am you can simply focus on you and the things you need to do.
I began noticing that my day was 100x more productive. I now get more done before 6am than I would all day on my previous sleep 'schedule'. I get up, make a healthy breakfast, hit the gym, do some writing, study programming, clean whatever needs cleaned, make breakfast for the kids. I have time to collect myself. To do the things I want, to have my free time and be more productive.
Sure, the tradeoff is that I can't stay up til midnight browsing reddit and playing facebook games anymore, but I'd rather it this way. I've learned so much and I don't think I could go back. As the old saying goes "Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise." Boy isn't that the truth!
Try it for 2 weeks, go to bed a few hours earlier and get up early. I bet you'll be shocked with all the things you can do before 6am! Do it even on the weekends.
