Roy Hodgson became manager of the England football team in 2012 and his distinguished managing career now spans 40 years. England's footballing fortunes have rarely been predictable, but the team's easy qualification for Euro 2016 in the summer has given fans a rare cause for hope. Former footballer Hodgson played for Crystal Palace's youth team and several non-league clubs. England is the fourth national team he has managed, after spells in charge of Switzerland, Finland and the UAE, and he speaks a number of languages. Paying tribute to his 40-year milestone, FA chairman Greg Dyke praised his encouragement of young players and said, 'Roy is a great example to any aspiring coach that being open to new experiences and cultures can really develop you as a person'.
