Dr Nancy Ip Yuk-Yu, JP
Dr Nancy Ip plays a significant role in the development of biotechnology in Hong Kong as dean of science, Morningside Professor of Life Science and director of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Ip is well known for her discoveries in the biology of proteins that promote the survival, development and maintenance of neurons in the nervous system, and she has made important contributions towards understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying brain development. After an early career in New York, including as senior staff scientist at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Ip joined HKUST in 1993. She has published over 240 scientific papers and holds 23 patents and has received numerous awards, including the National Natural Science Award, China’s highest honour in the natural sciences.
