Questions on the Ceremony

I am getting married soon and am worried about who should give me away. My father died when I was quite young and I do not have any brothers.  I do have an older sister, and have been told that it is acceptable to be given away by a female relative, but I am not sure. If only males are acceptable, can I simply ask a good friend? Lorraine, Norfolk
You can choose who you would like to give you away, but think carefully about who you would feel most comfortable with. They are there to provide support in those last nervous moments, as well as to accompany you up the aisle and participate in the ceremony. Make sure, too, that you wouldn't make someone feel uncomfortable by asking them to assume this important role. If you're marrying in a church, you could discuss your options with your vicar.
