LGC 2006: Ubisoft Using Assassin's Engine for New Project
New Prince of Persia? New IP? More questions emerge.
The Scimitar Engine, the one powering Ubisoft's beautiful Assassin's Creed, is going to be put to work on more games from the French company. Claude Langlais, technical director on Assassin's Creed (and the chap who dropped the Assassin's Creed demo tidbit to us), told 1UP that the engine powering Assassin's Creed -- the Scimitar Engine -- wasn't just going to be used for the Holy War killing game.
"Scimitar is being used in another, currently unannounced IP," Langlais told 1UP. When we pressed on whether or not that was an Assassin's follow-up, Langlais said it was not an AC follow-up. When pushed further on whether or not the game was a new or existing IP, Langlais said he couldn't say. He did, however, confirm that the game would be announced next year (thanks?). Could the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time team be using their Scimitar engine to power the first next-gen PoP title after they wrap up work on Assassin's Creed? Whether the Asssassin's team is making the game in question or not, at least we know what the tech behind this unannounced title is -- Scimitar.

People at and who work for Ubisoft have already said that Assassin's Creed won't just be for one (i.e. PS3) next gen platform. Publishers have already realized that the way to making big ching is to ensure their games are available on all platforms. At with the success of the 360 it would be stupid not to make a version of the game for us Xbox'ers. And as for another Prince of Persia? Bring it on!! Dutch www.thedigitalblast.com

Dude, take your ritalin and chill. If anybody should be blocked it's you, for your all-caps spelling-error infested rant about Kid "Icurus". Oni-Link is entitled to his opinion, and if you think he should be blocked for having it, then go find some totalitarian website where people that disagree with you aren't allowed... I don't know about the PS3 being flawed, but I'd certainly say Sony's marketing plans and information to date have been flawed and then some. As for the item at hand, I totally agree regarding AC coming to 360 and looking every bit as good as the PS3.

of course schmitar will run on 360 b/c it's more powerful than PS3

PS3 is a very flawed system it lacks the simplicity of the Wii(though it only has the 3x the power of GCN) or the muscle of the 360. Don't believe me check out IGN's article comparing the two architectures. Wi360 all the way baby!!!

Going to be for PS3, Xbox360, or both? This news might be pretty good news for people wondering about the status of Assassin's Creed on 360. That is, if we knew what platform this "unannounced game" was going to be released on. Booooo.
