Research at Sussex

A key role for universities in the UK is to work with organisations of all kinds to consider and respond to today's world issues and the long term challenges for society as a whole.

The breadth of multidisciplinary research at Sussex reflects our understanding of and engagement with such key issues and challenges. Always looking to the future, we focus on excellence, and our ability to cross traditional research boundaries provides the foundation for a unique approach to developing new directions in the search for knowledge and innovation.

Sussex research themes

In order to make the strength of our interdisciplinary traditions at Sussex more accessible to our colleagues and partners, our research is defined within six broad thematic areas of knowledge which support and reflect our research identity nationally and internationally. The themes provide a forum to foster collaborative working, and allow individual academic staff to play a role in tackling complex research challenges that, working alone, they would not be able to address. These areas of research will evolve and expand over time, encompassing new and innovative aspects of our work.

If you are interested in our research please contact us for more information. We work collaboratively with many organisations at a local, national and international level, and welcome enquiries, ideas and project proposals from external partners.
