He died on December 23, 1990 in La Garenne-Colombes, Hauts-de-Seine, France.

As a French Jew, he was forced to abandon a flourishing career as a director, fleeing from Nazi-occupied France for Argentina in 1942. He resumed work after the war, but with considerably less success.
