Introducing Sticks to the Sonic Boom FranchiseIn advance of the highly-anticipated launch of Sonic Boom, the newest branch of the Sonic the Hedgehog universe announced earlier this year, SEGA is pleased to unveil Sticks, a brand-new character that will play an integral role across all Sonic Boom platforms. Sticks, a jungle badger who has spent most of her life living alone in the wilderness, will appear in the Sonic Boom TV series, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS video games, and merchandise, forming a common thread across all iterations of the new Sonic Boom world. Sticks joins Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy to form the core ensemble featured throughout the Sonic Boom franchise. “Sticks is a significant addition to the Sonic Boom universe and the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise,” said Hiroyuki Miyazaki, Chief Content Officer for the Sonic Brand, SEGA of America. “She brings a quirky personality and perspective to the team dynamic, and we look forward to sharing this energetic and funny new character with the world.” Sticks is new to Sonic’s circle of friends– actually new to friends in general– and as the most primal character in the Sonic universe, she is a force of nature in every way. Sticks is wilder than the other members of Sonic’s team with unparalleled animal instincts and extremely sharp survival skills. She’s a fearsome combatant and a tenacious hunter who’s armed with handmade weapons at all times, most notably a handmade boomerang that she keeps in tow. Her wildness means that her social skills need plenty of work and she’s not the most trusting individual. Full of outrageous suspicions, Sticks’ instincts often prove to be accurate. While the concepts of sharing, compassion and friendship are foreign to her, Sticks has a good heart and a genuine desire to get closer to her new friends, particularly Amy, who helps Sticks adapt to civilization. Sticks and Amy quickly become best friends, with Sticks willing to go to extremes to protect her new pal, a quality that will play out through new Sonic Boom content. Her eccentric character adds an endless amount of humor and surprise to the Sonic team.
Serving as a prequel to the stories revealed in the TV series the Sonic Boom video games will deliver a totally different experience to previous Sonic games with collaborative gameplay at its core. Developed in the U.S by California based Big Red Button Entertainment (Wii U) and Sanzaru Games (Nintendo 3DS) in collaboration with Sonic Team, this is the third title to be released as part of an exclusive deal with Nintendo. Sonic Boom will take advantage of the innovative hardware of both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, with traditional elements of Sonic games, such as speed, also featured. The videogame will also introduce exploration, combat and a new Enerbeam tether mechanic that will allow the Sonic Boom world to be discovered in totally unique ways. Sonic Boom will be supported by a robust global licensing and merchandising program, anchored by master toy partner TOMY. TOMY’s line will showcase the new character looks, stressing interaction between core characters, and will feature new play patterns based on both the new games and TV series. TOMY will develop a comprehensive toy range across a broad number of categories including plush, action figures, RC, role play, vehicles and novelty. Sonic fans can expect a high-quality, collectible toy line fueled by TOMY innovation and energized with speed, lights, sounds, motion-activation and action-performance. Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared as a videogame character in June 1991 and instantly became an icon for a generation of gamers. Defined by his super-fast speed and cool attitude, in the years since he first raced on to videogame consoles Sonic has become a true global phenomenon with over 140 million videogames sold or downloaded worldwide across consoles, PC’s, mobile phones and tablets. SEGA’s iconic blue blur has also gone on to enjoy incredible success in many licensed areas, such as toys, apparel, comics and animation. Executive producers on the Sonic Boom TV series are Evan Baily, Donna Friedman Meir and Jane McGregor on behalf of SEGA, and Sandrine Nguyen and Boris Hertzog from OuiDO!. Bill Freiberger is Co-Executive Producer. Other partners involved in the TV series include Lagardère Entertainment Rights for distribution for TV and Video and Lagardère Active TV Licensing & New Business for licensing and merchandise in France.

Sticks is friggin’ lovely! Reminds me of Marine a lot and I love Marine!
However, Sonic and Amy are kinda bad on this new render.

Knuckles: Been there done that.

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing more of this new character. Glad to see a strong female character archetype that hasn’t already been done in the Sonic franchise… and I love the irony of a feral anthro.

I’m a Marine fan. 😛
But I like this character better. I mean, Sticks looks, sounds, and apparently IS what I expected Marine to be like.
… I don’t quite dig the name, but I guess I could get used to it.
Anyway, can’t believe there’s finally something that boosts my interest in this game/show. If at least only for a little.

I have no problems with her design, it looks absolutely great! Not to mention I’ve gotten used to her voice in a short time. Although, Sonic’s new render… I can’t help but feel there’s something odd about it. To be honest, I prefer the old render of Boom Sonic to this one. Amy, Tails and Knuckles are looking fine, so that’s good. Might want to change Amy’s smirk a bit though.

Ok Sticks just go stand next to all the other “new” characters Sega makes for a Sonic sequel since we’ll never see you again after this game.

I thought the voice sounded familiar, looked the actress up and turns out I was wrong. She’s Asaji Ventress in Star Wars. However, I thought it was Gosling from dark wing duck, or Suzie from Rugrats.

If Sticks isn’t playable, then every potential problem (aside from characterization) is a non-issue.
Sticks looks to be a dash of basically every female character from the old franchise (except Amy [and Elise])with a touch of the classic Doctor Who companion Leela as well as the pre-Emo Shadow. Quite honestly, the only reason Sticks has been created is because the other dimension featuring Blaze, Marine, and Silver (yeah, I’m putting Silver in Blaze’s dimension, otherwise Eggman Nega makes no sense) can’t exactly show up all of the time. Not to mention, you can’t have Cream, because then you would have to have Cheese the Chao and Vanilla.
SEGA might be able to pull this character off effectively because unlike Princess Elise from Sonic ’06, her characterization fits her backstory. If SEGA can’t pull this character off, oh well, at least the main four look to be awesome enough to make up for it.
Not to mention she should be a contrast to Amy, part of the reason Shadow was so well received was that Shadow was a darker shade of Sonic. SEGA, tread carefully, every time you introduce a bad or mediocre character the fanbase gets more and more upset.

What is the purpose of making an entirely new character who is an annoying raccoon when you already have a perfectly good annoying raccoon in Marine? People complain that you add too many new characters without using the ones you’ve made. Start using the characters you made and stop dropping them to make newer characters who are pretty much the same.

This… is gonna be hilarious. Voice acting is kinda hard to picture, but it’ll probably make sense when I see it.
And Marine fans, Sticks is a badger, not a raccoon.

A thing that all fans of Sonic like me need to understand that all good franchises and characters need some reset sometimes… It’s obvious that things like excluding characters or changing is nota a good idea bit revamping stories and visual is real welcome. I play since Máster System version, Sonic is the fist game that I play on my life and when he appeared different on Sonic 3 I liked, when he chances more on Adventure series I line more and now this “new” Sonic is really good for a Reset, line Raios and even Knuckles with this gigantic silhouette. Só I hope that Sega reach the objective it nerds for a decade, Sonic need to be reinvented to survive to the old fans and create new ones, because the plumber is only real known for its past but now??? Sonic AMD Sega Cares about this future so do I!!!

OMG SHE ISN”T WEARING ANY GLOVE! WHAT SORCERY IS THIS!
But on a serious note I like her. Sure she’s like Marine but Sonic Rush Adventure wasn’t a great game (That boat mechanic was such a pain) and I really doubt we’ll ever see Marine again so I don’t mind a similar character showing up. Plus I like her design so why sweat the small stuff?
Not the biggest fan of her voice but I’ll probably get used to it. The only thing I’m a bit worried about is the whole “Conspiracy nut” thing. I’m just a bit worried she’ll just spout a bunch of random nonsense that is stupid and unfunny most of the time. We’ve only heard her say a few lines so it’s too early to tell for sure but I am a bit worried about that.

I have high hopes with the Sonic Boom now, as none of the new generations Sonic has lived up to the marks of the original three and the sonic adventures franchise.
The new character looks similar to Tale but still is quite nice

Why do I always like Sonic characters that the fanbase thinks are whiny and annoying….
Okay just Cosmo and Elise but, they had potential….
And most fans hate them because of the shipping……..

BEST FRIEND!?!? What about Cream! You can`t just throw her out like that! Cream was Amy`s sometimes- sidekick! That would be like giving Sonic a new best buddy! YOU CAN`T [Or at least shouldn`t] DO THAT!!! That similliar relationship was one of the only things those two had in common! How do you expect her to ever make headway in such conitions! What will become of Cream [please don`t hide her with Bean… and Bark… and Nack… and Ray… and Mighty… SHE`S JUST A GIRL!!! IT`S TOO SOON FOR HER TO DISAPPEAR!!! Also, who`s going to worry about the Chao if she`s gone! You`ll shift the balance and cause a parodox, or a rift in time, a tear in reality, a glitch in the matrix! SAVE CREAM!!!! otherwise, I love the show design thus far.

Ew, sticks. What happened to the Sonic Franchise. Amy and Sally were enough now this character name ‘sticks’ that doesn’t even fit in the crew. Sonic is getting stupider and stupider now and even the names for these new characters are getting cheesy.
Another forced feminist type of character in the Sonic World. Oh look, she has a boomerang and a big attitude! Something I would look forward to as a little-girl because she’s always kicking butt. Wow, i’m so excited! Not. Your character is lame Sega, lame, and a rip-off to all us older fans that supported this merchandise back when it was nothing more than a cartridge game.
Is it me, or has the theme been lately for females in videogames to carry an attitude? Amy use to be sweet until she got aged after metal-sonic, and this sticks character is nothing more than your run-of-the-mill kick-butt type obliviously influenced by western media. Where does she even come into play? Not anyone from Knot-Hole with the Freedom Fighters. Be a girl. Carry a boomerang. Fearlessly defeat your enemies, every-time! Oh and btw, she needed to come out her ‘hole’ first. Sticks wasn’t cool until she becomes an angry extrovert. Yay! Way to go Sega, dissing inverts for extroverts. Extroverts are sure swell leaders, aren’t they?
We have plenty of sticks from teen-titan, Even sweet tails is getting an attitude now too.

I think everything is going great! Honestly you guys can do what you want with this. I trust in SEGA. I’ve seen all the trailers and I have a strong hunch that i’ll enjoy the show and the games. Also i’m aware that there’s a modern Sonic game in the works which is why i’m not so shocked at all this. As long as you also keep making modern Sonic games that have Sonic being good old Sonic, then it’s all good. I hope that modern Sonic’s games will start to become slightly more serious like the adventure series. While Sonic Boom is more comedic and childish. It can be childish and also enjoyable to older viewers too by the way. Like the Cartoon Network series Clarence. 😀
PLEASE! Please make the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie in all animation or all CGI! It will just work way better that way. I don’t get why there has to be live-action in everything nowadays! Don’t you hear all the fans complaining about this? Anyway IF you just HAVE to make it a hybrid for SOME REASON… try your best to make it good. Don’t make it like the smurfs or whatever. DO NOT focus on humans! It has to be about SONIC & HIS FRIENDS (I am hoping Amy will be in this movie). No matter what, I’ll go watch it and give it a fair chance because I LOVE Sonic.

Love how everybody thinks Sticks is Marine is ironic so to speack. Let’s see how easily to identify the differences.
Besides have the same same fur color tone but in different shapes.
Marine has smaller pig tail style, Sticks is larger.
Marine wears gloves, Sticks is bared handed with plantinum wrist bracelets.
Marine doesn’t wear a necklace, Sticks does.
Marine has a deep foreign accent, Sticks is totally NY style accent.
Marine has a blabber mouth know it all attitude, Sticks has an attitude of suspicions.
Oh one more thing Marine’s “tails is larger along with stripes and different shape” while Sticks is smaller you could hardly tell at first she had a tail.
If I’m leaving anything out then go so forth until then, NEED I SAY MORE?

I surely like Sticks as well, since she proved to be an awesomely hilarious character (hopping she might join the main Sonic Series too), but… honestly… I’ll remain more in love with Amy, my top favourite Sonic character, above all when she was voiced by Lisa Ortiz (and I terribly miss Ortiz’s melodius Amy voice)!
P.S. I wish Sega and Nintendo will start adding four new playable character for the next Mario and Sonic at the Olympics chapter (Birbo, Speed-type, and Rosalina, Skill-type, for Team Mario; and Rouge, Power-type, and Sticks, All-Around, for Team Sonic! It would be so cool!
