Sheba Hospital

The Sheba Medical Center is the largest hospital in Israel and indeed, the Middle East. The Medical Center serves as Israel’s national medical center in many fields. Located in Ramat Gan, just outside of Tel Aviv it is world renowned for its professionalism, levels of care and cutting edge medicine. In addition, the center’s many departments are actively involved in major medical and scientific research projects involving collaboration with leading hospitals and research institutes around the world.

The Sheba Medical Center combines six major facilities: a medical research complex, a medical school, an acute care hospital, a children’s hospital, a women’s hospital and the country’s foremost rehabilitation hospital.

The original hospital was established in 1948 as Military Hospital No. 5 that treated casualties in Israel’s War of Independence. Five years later, it became a civilian hospital known as Tel HaShomer headed by Dr. Chaim Sheba and was renamed the Sheba Medical Center following his death in 1971.

Facts and Figures

The entire Sheba complex occupies an area of 150 acres and includes 64 medical departments, 110 outpatient clinics, 32 laboratories and more than 1,700 beds.

The hospital treats some 1.5 million patients every year including more than 200,000 emergency room patients each year, making it Israel’s busiest emergency room. The outpatient clinics treat hundreds of thousands of people a year and overall, the hospital carries out well over 2,000,000 tests.

Medical staff includes more than 1400 doctors, 2,600 nurses and 3,300 medical technicians and health workers.

Rehabilitation Hospital

With over 800 beds and 14 building, this is one of the largest rehabilitation hospitals in the world with a global reputation for rehabilitation services such as orthopedic, neurological, respiratory, psychiatric, geriatric, trauma and MS rehabilitation.

The Rehabilitation Hospital Is world renowned for developing new, cutting edge technologies and treatment regimens for advanced orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation, including Virtual Reality Muscle Training, Computerized Gait Analysis, and more.

The Edmond & Lily Safra Children’s Hospital

Proud of its status as a “Pain Free Hospital” the 155 bed hospital treats over 60,000 children a year including many patients from across Middle East. The hospital is a world leader in hematology and hematooncology, bone marrow transplantation, rheumatology, rehabilitation and more.

The Joseph Buchman Gynecology and Maternity Center

The Maternity Center includes is known worldwide for its facilities and its medical and patient care staff.   Its departments include obstetrics, high-risk pregnancies, gynecology, onco-gynecology, a day-care clinic and specialized units, including IVF (with excellent success rates), Infertility, urogynecology, and invasive and noninvasive ultrasound. On average, some 10,000 babies are born in the center every year – Mazal Tov!
