KTH: Pastor encourages parents to punch boys

In his sermon, a North Carolina Pastor tells his followers to "punch" and "reign in" children who appear to be gay.

    It's ironic that his church is called Berean Baptist Church. In the New Testament book of Acts (chapter 17), the Bereans were esteemed because they searched the scriptures daily to verify the authenticity of the Apostle Paul's teaching. Obviously this pastor should search the scriptures more carefully before issuing imperatives contrary to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Pastors are as human as the rest of us, and equally fallible, and thus should be forgiven. Let's not forget that this small excerpt does not (hopefully) represent the entirety of the man's work in ministry (the good works are never deemed newsworthy). However, when a pastor champions his own private agenda at the expense of the gospel, he ought to be held accountable, both for his own sake and for the sake of the church.

    it appears that the pastor got reigned in by some politically correct lawyer in his retraction. He should have stuck to his guns of calling parents to reign in abnormal behavior in children.

    This man is talking about correction. And what he said was he never said it was ok to physically or psychologically abuse. Abuse and correction are two different things that are often crossed.

    This kind of violence against children who get some identity problem horrifying me. My personal opinion we just need to find out what cause this -may child molestation, may medical issues (eg .genetic ) , may just a dysfunctional family and sure many more. Very important get the roots of the cause and not punch the little kids, this can be more damaging in a long run. This pastor can't speak, can't heal, can't teach anything good , not for parents, not for kids. What I heard in this speach just a very violent message!

    Let me guess, this pastor's ancestors wore white hoods and didn't think civil rights were necessary for everyone. This pastor is an abomination to God shame on him for advocating abuse in any form. Hate of this nature is not Christian – do not be deceived people – Christ would NOT approve this man's message. He should be fired – not fit to lead a congregation. Send him packing'!!!

    Dan Savage had it correct. When will we start ignoring all of the crazy stuff promoted in the bible instead of a selective list (slavery, shellfish, etc.)? What is even more upsetting about this than the preacher's teachings is the crowd all agreeing with him. That is why they are called "sheep" I guess...

    If you have lived in North Carolina you know that there is a white culture of fear that manifests its insecurity by oppressing and abusing all around them. It is a manner of survival for them, even though it makes them miserable. It is why child abuse is accepted because no one tells out of codependency and fear. Uniqueness is frowned upon and fear of surviving as an individual is ingrained by three. Very sad but very true.
