Science

Science programs on the ABC should be stories that reach through the screen to communicate the thrill and beauty of science, it's intimate and fundamental relevance to our lives, and it’s unique, evidence-based underpinning.

Science isn’t about boffins- it’s about explaining the mystery behind everything around us, from sex to space, disease to asteroids, dinosaurs to nanotechnology, climate, environment, space, maths, health, technology, invention, plants, minerals and animals…. !

Science programs on the ABC must be first and foremost a good story. They may be popular and entertaining, or epic think-films; they may be innovative, bold, contemporary or traditional; driven by characters, events, theses, breakthroughs; or may be intimate human stories interwoven with hard science. All must be rigorously accurate, intelligent, scientifically relevant, and must emotionally engage the viewer with a story.

The key question when bringing us a science program idea is: is it a great story? Is the science important? Is it accurate? What does it add to a body of knowledge or understanding about us, Australia and Australians, our physical environment, life or space? Is it engaging?

We are looking for single hour documentaries, short (2-4) series of hour documentaries, and short (4-6) series of half hour films, all to broadcast at prime time on ABC1.
