West Karbi Anglong district inaugurated
 HAMREN (West Karbi Anglong), Feb 11 - The West Karbi Anglong was officially inaugurated as a new district today by State HAD Minister Kharsing Engti in presence of AU Ahmed, commissioner, Central and Lower Assam, Division; Dr Mansing Rongpi, parliamentary secretary, government of Assam; Tuliram Ronghang, CEM, KAAC and EMs of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

On the occasion, a public meeting was held at Rongbong Ronghang playground, Hamren. It may be mentioned here that people of different communities of West Karbi Anglong like Karbis, Bodos, Garos, Hajongs, Mizos and Assamese-speaking people performed their respective traditional dances in the ceremonial function.

While addressing the public gathered on the occasion, Kharsing Engti said that this is a sign of development for the people of West Karbi Anglong. Such significant developments or issues will be given importance in the near future too if people extend their support to the Congress, Engti added.

In his speech, Tuliram Ronghang, CEM, KAAC sought support from the people in the ensuing election and urged them to vote in favour of the Congress candidates. Besides, he spoke about his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for redress of various problems and issues of Karbi Anglong. The Prime Minister had assured to solve the problems, Ronghang said.

Meanwhile, he urged the people to cooperate with the government for further development, peace and harmony in the district.

The new district inaugural meeting was also addressed by local MLA and parliamentary secretary, Dr Mansing Rongpi and AU Ahmed, Commissioner, Central and Lower Assam, Division.

At the end of the meeting, the office of the Deputy Commissioner was inaugurated by Kharsing Engti. It needs to be mentioned here that the area of the newly-declared West Karbi Anglong district is 3055 square kilometres and its population is around three lakhs.

Debo Kumar Nath has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of this new district while MC Sharma has been appointed as the Superintendent of Police. Meanwhile, Debo Kumar Nath has sought cooperation of the people for the smooth functioning of the new district.
