Cinderella had a little magic going on with her pumpkin, and frankly, I think Kathleen George worked a little magic with this mosaic pumpkin, too. Kathleen’s Terra Cotta Mosaic Pumpkin is perfect for fall decorating. It’s beautiful indoors, of course, and you can safely display it outside, too. It’s made with a ball of STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam, so it’s weather safe and won’t be affected by rain or snow (yikes, did I just say “snow”?). Mosaics can get pretty heavy, too, and the foam ball offers a lot of support and a stiff surface that won’t flex like a foam pumpkin.

You can safely display your Terra Cotta Mosaic Pumpkin outdoors — the ball of STYROFOAM Brand Foam in the middle will not be affected by rain or snow. (My apologies for the fake leaves — I just thought the photo needed a little color and it’s too early for the real thing . . .)
In the tutorial, Kathleen will walk you through how to shape your foam ball into a pumpkin. Then, she explains how to safely break up your terra cotta pots. This is a great way to repurpose those old, chipped and mismatched terra cotta pots and saucers you might have stashed away.
I hope you’ll make your own pumpkin mosaic magic with Kathleen’s tutorial on StyrofoamCrafts.com.

Broken, chipped and mismatched terra cotta garden pots are magically transformed into a beautiful mosaic pumpkin!
I’ve shared quite a few mosaic projects this summer, and if you’re looking for a little more mosaic inspiration, you’ll find it here:
How’s the summer been where you are? Are you looking forward to fall? I know I am!
Happy crafting.
Ok so I have my pumpkin covered with the terracotta pieces. Looking good so far but I’m stumped on how to cover the bottom since I want this for outside. How do I apply the chipped terracotta pieces so my pumpkin will sit straight?
So glad you’re DIY-ing this beauty! Here’s an idea for you — use a small saucer from a terra cotta pot, or the bottom of the pot itself. You can push either one of these into the bottom of the ball of STYROFOAM Brand Foam, making sure it’s level and the ball will sit without rolling. Then, grout around the base just like you do the smaller pieces. This this will work for you? Please let me know how it turns out and send a photo — I’d love to see it! Sharon

This is awesome. My kids would have fun, and have more patience than I, doing this one.
P.S. – You shouldn’t have told us the leaves were fake. I’m still looking at them like….really?😉
I’m starting to wish the snow around here was “faux”, too! Ah well . . . spring will be here soon. Thanks! Sharon

Fall is my favorite season. Can’t wait to try this.
What a great fall craft. Thanks for sharing it.
I love that!!! It made me remember some old broken talavera pots I have that I’ve hauled cross country twice now just KNOWING I’d find something to do with them! I won’t make a pumpkin but I know I can do some of those garden ball mosaics. I have plenty of terra cotta for that pumpking though!!!! Thanks for posting and sharing!!!
