You guys! This smoothie is amazing. I've been trying to get in copious amounts of hemp seeds because the health benefits are amazing and I can feel it. I was recently diagnosed with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) and with the advice of my doctor we're working on natural treatments. I'm taking 100mg of B6 a day and trying to get in a lot of essential fatty acids, enter hemp seeds. Severe PMS symptoms have been linked to a deficiency in essential fatty acids, specifically GLA. More GLA in your system can help to stabilize hormone levels and reduce inflammation which in turn eases bloating, cramping.
This smoothie is creamy with a hint of nuttiness from the hemp seeds. It's vegan, gluten free and nut free. Such a delicious way to start the day in the garden with my blooming peonies.
- 2 cups coconut water
- 1/4 cup hemp hearts
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 1 banana
- 2 pitted medjool dates
- Blend coconut water, dates and hemp seeds until you get a frothy milk type consistency. You can't blend this for too long so don't worry. The longer you blend the smoother it will be.
- Add in the strawberries and banana and blend some more to your desired consistency.
- You could add in any frozen fruit but I'm a sucker for a creamy strawberry smoothie!
