Demi Lovato will be honored with the inaugural "Rulebreaker" award at Billboard's Women in Music event on Dec. 11 at Cipriani Midtown in New York. This year's Women in Music event will air on TV for the first time via Lifetime on Dec. 18.

In addition to the "Rulebreaker" award, the "Confident" singer will perform at the 2015 Women in Music event.

"Demi Lovato is an artist in full control of her career," said Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media’s Entertainment Group, which consists of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. "Her ability to use and not hide her personal story in her music and in her own mission is inspiring. She has a passion and drive to empower other girls and women that is remarkable. She’s a true force in the industry and a ‘rule breaker’ who has inspired millions."

Lady Gaga to Be Honored as Billboard Woman of the Year

Lovato has five top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 and 22 entries on the Hot 100.

The same event will see Lady Gaga honored as Woman of the Year, Selena Gomez honored as this year's Chart Topper, and Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard given the Powerhouse award. Lovato, Gaga, Gomez and Howard will all perform at the event. Additional 2015 honorees and performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 2015 Women in Music event is held in conjunction with the publication of Billboard’s Women in Music list, which selects the year’s 50 most powerful female executives in the industry.
