Toulouse, France: Seven Spanish potholers were trapped today in a cave in southwestern France, French police said, in an area battered hard by storms in recent days.
Eight of an original group of 15 managed to escape and raise the alarm in the early hours of today morning, police said.
As of 08:00 am (0700 GMT) on Wednesday, no contact had yet been established with the other seven members of the party.
The chasm is in Herran in the heart of the Pyrenees region, close to the Spanish border.
